A few years ago I sent my poem "Three" to June Cotner, thinking it would work well in her Birthday Blessings anthology. I got a preliminary acceptance back, which means the poem fits in the anthology but may be cut if other poems come in with a better fit.
I wrote "Three" just before the Little One was three with her in mind. Last year she turned seven. After she broke her foot, I came up with an acrostic for Seven that fit her well and complements the Three acrostic well too. June is still looking to fill the Birthday Blessings anthology so I sent it off.
Imagine my surprise when I get my SASE this morning. "Seven" has been given a preliminary acceptance. Yay! for Unapologetic Woman: Poems and Reflections. I went to June's site: www.junecotner.com . I had to look up what this anthology encompassed. I can see why she accepted it for a different anthology than it was submitted for:
"UNAPOLOGETIC WOMAN: POEMS AND REFLECTIONS The idea for this book came from a 20-something friend of mine. She wanted a book that she could relate to and that would draw on the popularity of the Andrews McMeel book Believing in Ourselves. The preliminary chapters include: 1) Love; 2) Relationships; 3) Ordinary Life; 4) Children; 5) Friendship; 6) Image; 7) Strength; 8) Self-Discovery; 9) Heartache and Healing; 10) Reflections; and 11) Inspiration"
