Sitting at work today and my cell phone rings.

That in itself isn’t unusual but the number that comes up is.  It is my very bestest chicklette friend who lives across the street from me.  She is intelligent, wacky, insane, fun and teaches the ‘Gifted and Talented’ kids in 7th & 8th grade.  She jokes that being in her class means they are 1 brain cell away from being certifiably insane which makes her the perfect teacher to teach them.  Since she can relate and all.

What she says – not what I say – but she is most fun and entertaining.

So back to the number popping up on my cell.  I grab my new LG phone (that I’m trying desperately to figure out how to actually work) and fumble with the keys until I think I have pressed the one that will allow me to actually talk on the durn thing.  I put it up to my ear and spout out ‘Hey chicklette, how’s it hanging?’  Dead silence at the other end.  I quickly pull the phone away from my ear and look at the screen to see if perhaps I hung up on the call instead of actually ‘accepting’ it.

Nope I didn’t hang up (whew)

So I put the phone back to my ear and say a normal greeting of ‘Hello’ this time . . . pause . . . Hello.  Then I hear this small little voice say ‘can I talk to Magpie?’  Suddenly I realize that chicklette’s 7 yr old daughter is on the phone and apparently she wants to play with Magpie.  School starts here on the 24th so chicklette started her Back in Service this week to prepare for the monsters kids coming back soon.  I’m guessing that after being off all summer chicklette must’ve needed a nap after working today and daughter decided this would be a good time to get in mommies purse, pull out her cell and call her bestest friend across the street to see if she could play.  I had to explain to the poor baby that Magpie was at Grand-mommies house right now and that I was at work but to watch for us to come home because she could most certainly come over and play at that time.

I had to chuckle when I hung up the phone and I guess that I need to be a bit more careful in my greetings from now on.

I'm betting she walked into where Mommy was napping and asked, "Hey Mommy, how's it hanging?"  rofl

Here's hoping she speaks clearly and when she repeats this, it doesn't come out sounding like 'shitlette'
