Income tax in both our countries didn't exist until after the WWI, and in actuality weren't even legal here until they passed a law back in the 70's to legalize it. Before that the Gov't was just taking it. Finally someone challenged it won. Then they passed a retroactive law to cover their asses. So is it theft probably but we pay income taxes, prov(state) sales tax and a federal sales tax as well. Mind you it does fund our universal health care and that is worth the few extra bucks a year we pay.
I agree with Huckabee's idea for another reason. The rich. Those sons of bitches find every loophole in the tax laws so they don't have to pay so much. Then what happens is, when the gov't needs more money, the poor and middle class get raped, while the rich keep getting richer.
Prime example... yesterday I was watching the news and low and behold, they had a story about a tax evasion scheme. Apparently, there is a bank in Leichteinstein ( Forgive my spelling ) which just so happens to be owned by the nations Prince. Well Princey is allowing rich Americans to hide their millions and billions in his bank from the IRS. Apparently, a disgruntled former employee of the bank, released a list of the names of Americans and Europeans to both the IRS and the European Nations. BUSTED!!! One of the names on the list happens to be the billionaire who owns the rights and plans to the 9/11 memorial in NYC. The US Government is planning to sopena Mr. Prince as per he faces charges for conspiracy to evade US tax laws and harboring US tax evasionists...hehehe The Prince of course has refused to speak about it, and plans to go into hiding. Apparently Britain and the EU are out for blood as well. Hopfully some justice will be done...for once.
I feel that if they can tax the shit outta us, we should be given free health care for EVERYBODY...like in Canada. Granted, its a socialist cause, but a good one. There are still people in the US who cannot afford health insurance, and even here in NY if your not considered really poor, you don't qualify. Basically, they look at how much you gross, not at how much Uncle Sam is raping your ass.
Excellent post

Yes, it certainly is theft. Huckabee's idea isn't much better. To be fair, it isn't even Huckabee's idea. I assume you are talking about the Fair Tax. Spending by the Federal Government must be cut down by a large percentage. Otherwise, it doesn't really matter how they steal our money.
True, spending must be cut in addition to tax reform but that wasn't the subject of my blog. I'm curious why you say that Huckabee's idea isn't much better. At least it helps to even the burden out and distribute it more evenly. Yes it may hurt a bit more when the time comes to make large purchases but I know I'm not in a position to be buying a 40 ft yacht so I'm not too worried.
