If you sliced and diced Bard and Leibniz's last answers, you could have it. Bard is a google away. The question is what to google. I'm real impressed you all've gotten this far. Also, the cleaver and gun aren't clues in themselves so much as, vain whaler-turned-artiste that I am, where they fell into place in my whale-killing journal.

Re: Late-Breaking Hints
I'd guess it but you are relishing all the confusion and struggle and writhing from your readers wh are trying to solve your riddle way too much for me to wish to deprive you of it.  That's my story, anyway.

I came into this way too late to have an intelligent comment, but I have to say it sounds highly intriguing anyway. <smile>

does it have anything to do with trying to be king and adept at swordplay?

Re: Late-Breaking Hints
relishing, indeed.

both the gun and the cleaver scrimshaws reference a single event:  gus used the cleaver to dis-arm (in more ways than one) nelson.

Re: Late-Breaking Hints
Yeah, that event is pretty key, but it wasn't the dis-arming part that's a factor.
