Quote from survivors of the May 3 cyclone that swept across Myanmar:

"When we first saw the bodies floating past, we were sad and afraid,” said Aung Win, a 45-year-old rice farmer, who seemed to have survived because his house is made of hardwood. “Now we just say, here comes another body."

This is sad when this is a part of YOUR life. As much as I seen stuff like this on the TV, I can't imagine it in real life.

Re: Death - a commodity
I can kind of understand it on a smaller scale.  Most children and even adults, get upset when they lose pets or animals they were close to, but living on a farm, I've seen so many die that it doesn't phase me very much any more, even when I'm doing the killing myself.

Likewise, a lot of people become a bawling, mushy mess when friends or relatives die, but after the first half dozen, you come accustomed to it.  Death is very much a part of life, even catastrophic numbers of dead.

Yeah, I understand - in theory.  But having seen so many movies with tons of bodies (Blood Diamonds, Killing Fields, King of Scotland, etc), I still can't imagine seeing them in real life.

But, like you said, I could very much deal with killing - if I had that as a job.  And definitely, if it he or me, I would not flinch in a moment.

I'm a city boy - Houston.  I've seen my dad kill chicken with ax, and I've shot many a small bird, rabbit, frogs  snakes with my bb-gun.  But, if I had to kill a pig, sheep, or cow - umm - I don't know.

But, again, if it is starve or kill a pig - I'd have myself a nice pulled pork sammidge!

If it's starve or kill you, well...  I'm a survivalist to the core!
