The number of overweight children and adolescents in the U.S. has doubled over the last 25 years, according to the American Obesity Association (AOA). This obesity epidemic means that more kids have been developing adult diseases like type 2 diabetes, asthma, sleep apnea, orthopedic complications, and even hypertension and heart disease.

The AOA attributes the increase in childhood obesity to poor diet and lack of physical activity. Kids are faced with dietary temptations every day through TV commercials, the school cafeteria, and even their own kitchen cabinets. Plus, the exercise that outdoor play once provided has largely been replaced by computers, video games, and television. Combined with a decrease in physical education programs at many public schools, it's much tougher for kids to achieve and maintain physical fitness.

A rebounder (www.reboundtohealth.com) is a fun, simple, and very effective way to get your child off of the couch and will ensure that they get some exercise each day. In fact, the whole family can enjoy the many benefits of rebound exercise!

Re: October 4 is National Child Health Day
Good morning and thank you for visiting my health blog. If you work at McDonald's I would imagine that the temptation to eat the food can be overwhelming. I don't care for their food myself so it wouldn't be an issue for me, which is a good thing! Do they have fruits or salads on their menu that you can eat? If you are 80 pounds overweight try this little exercise that will help you to understand exactly what those extra pounds are doing to your skeleton.

Go to Walmart or Pet Smart and find the scoopable cat litter that is sold in 27 or 28 pound plastic buckets. Pick one up and hold it for as long as you can, or until your arm muscles quiver. Or better yet, since you are 80 pounds overweight, pick up one in each hand and stand there holding them for a while. That is what those extra 56 pounds feels like to your body. Mentally add a third container and your mind will boggle at what you have done to yourself.

Each time you feel the urge to eat something that you know good and well is going to add weight to your body, revisit those tubs and see if that doesn't change your eating habits in a hurry!

Good luck to you and I hope that you visit my blog often and that there is something of value for you when you do visit.
