Hey, I just wanted to say thank you for helping me out! It was very interesting reading your answers, and seeing many of them confirm what I have studied already about the culture of Mexicans. It also gave me some positive feedback on the attitude towards Education, some of what I have read, made it seem as though for many students, teachers have to work hard to empower them to want and feel they deserve education.
Hello there. You are very welcome. I'm glad that I was able to help you and give you some input about the Mexican culture. I've only noticed recently the difference's between the way I was raised and the way others were.
I really felt like I was answering as anyone would but...I'm just glad that I stumbled upon your blog to help

Studying their culture has had a huge impact on me as well as my family. Living in a neighborhood with predominantly Hispanics, and my kids going to school with predominantly Hispanics, it's really helped us to understand alot about them.
Yes it's one of the sources for my final project I have to write on any culture I choose. So I chose the Mexican Culture, becuase I felt it would be a benifit to learning about the students I work with and will work with.
Oh, so you are going to become a teacher? That's fantastic and interesting
I don't know if you heard about it...but CNN did a two night special of "latino in america" it was REALLY good.

No just a Teacher assistant. I'll be certified, and be able to teach small groups, and help out the teacher, but not have all the responsibilities of a teacher.
OH wow, that would have been awesome to have watched. I have watched a couple of Dr. Phil and Oprah, that talked about hidden biases, and other things related to a multicultural class, that I will be able to use as sources in my paper.
Will you be teaching anything specific? I wouldn't mind...being a teachers assistant. I'm trying to figure out what I should go to school for. I really like to help people..hrm.
I found a clip on youtube! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WWLUUUFHzJA it's part one. Being in Utah and hispanic..has been an experience really. A large percentage of people just automatically assume that I'm from Mexico and only speak spanish. They are always surprised when I tell them I was born in California.

Often teacher assistants help with Reading groups.
Oh thank you, I will watch this.
Wow, It would be interesting to hear about your experience in Utah!
You are welcome! I think they are also coming out with a book too.
Ha. When we first moved here literally..people would follow me and my mother through the store. You'd think those days were over but nope. Even now when I go to the stores..people just stare. Little kids too I don't think they are used to seeing ethnic people because mostly everyone here is Caucasian and blond. My little cousin who is darker (especially during the summer time, whew) kids at school ask him if he's "Indian" because he's so dark...it's rough sticking out like a sore thumb.

Hrm....every summer me and my best friend, Jennifer, would get this hugeee tub, fill it with water and pretend it was a swimming pool and play barbies all morning until it was dark. I remember her dog even eating my hot dog one day....I miss them :/ You'd think with all the social networking sites I'd find her...
(lol it was sorta hard..there were lots of others to choose from. Like when my mother told me that when they left me walk home by myself with Jennifer..and I thought I was all grown up at eight...MY DAD was following us.)

Ha. Okay so the BEST memory I have is when my cat..somehow..attacked a squirrel...by the time me and my dad found the poor thing..rigamortis had already set in..so my dad took my uncle's lunch out of the fridge and replaced his lunch with the squirrel...
My poor uncle...
