1-Almost talked myself out of going to Water aerobics...after all I *did* go to Physical therapy today. But I went.

2-After aqua class, I was dressing and became very shaky, felt like a low blood sugar, but couldnt tell, I didnt have my kit with me and it could have just been from the workout.

3-I wanted to pull into every fast food restaurant on the way home. 7.5 miles of driving past 9oo restaurants all calling my name!

I made it past them, and I actually was able to prepare a healthy meal.

What I learned: I have to be prepared for these situations... Have a healthy snack in my gym bag..have my fridge stocked with the right kinds of foods (which this time I did!).

Be strong and courageous.

Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged,

for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.

Joshua 1:9

Take care of yourself!  Hope your feeling better!  J.

Thank goodness we don't have any fast food restaurants close by .... makes it easy to avoid! The closest one is 28 miles away. Don't need that temptation!

Re: My challenge today
Good lord, when we moved down here, first we lived in Columbus GA... and man.. we were just overwhelmed by the choices and abundance of restaurants.. incredible.  You could eat out and never repeat a restaurant every night!

Then we moved up here to the Atlanta area after my massage school ended and began my career here.. well.. like I said.. 7.5 miles.. all city traffic.. let me think just off the top of my head....

The MALL right across the street, Zaxby's, KFC, McD's, Burger King, Taco Bell, Starbucks, I think you get the idea...and oh..if I see ONE more commercial advertising Pizza huts new lasagna pizza I am going to go GARFIELD. :-o

Yep, I am feeling better, it passed, it was prob a combo of the muscle fatigue and lower sugar level.. I will get some low carb protein bar or something to carry in the bag

Re: My challenge today
So, did you end up having a low b.s.?  That reminds me....I should call the doc tomorrow.  For the past 3-4 days, every day, I have been extremely low right around 8 p.m.  One time I admit that I took too much insulin at supper, I was in the process of switching insulin pens, so I had to split the dose.  Human error.  The other times though...I don't get it.  I have been doing more around here, getting ready for the moving sale and all....but not so strenuous that I'm burning calories a ton.  More toting around, lifting, carrying, etc.  Stress usually makes it go higher.  So I'm not sure what is going on.  I'd be a hypocrite if I told you to make sure you always have your kit with you, as well as emergency sugar.....I don't do that all the time, and I should.  Just keep up the great work, and I truly wish I was as motivated as you are to get the diabetes under control.

Re: My challenge today
I do think it was a low, because when I got home, it was 94... and I had a nibble of a glucose tablet... so that prob raised it..and I havent really been running under 100 for a cple of months now.

My sister says she is taking a long acting shot at nite..lantis..then in the morning she takes actos.. and her sugars have been excellent...

No wonder docs are confused..we all act, react so differently..then when we think we have a pattern to kind of figure out, something throws it all out of whack.. like MOVING!

I do have an extra kit I keep at the office, I wish it was smaller to fit in my purse..lol..

see..whine whine whine

Re: My challenge today
I had a kit at work, when I worked....didn't use it on a regular basis, but it was there if I needed it.  I take the Lantus too, and then the short acting Novolog with carbs.  Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, all around 8 pm, I was in the 40's or lower.  For me, when they come on all of a sudden like that, I start seeing spots and get super dizzy.  I've only noticed the spots over the past few years, I didn't have that when I was younger.  Tonight I was around a 90 or a little more.  Yesterday afternoon, my dad was a 93 and I was a 95, and we ate some lemon bread, I didn't take any insulin for it, and then I think I ate a sandwich or something, took the right amount of insulin, and actually thought I may not have taken enough, and then again, I was super low.  I don't get it.  The problem with the doctors, in my experience at least, is that they treat every patient like they're a textbook case.  We all react differently, we all have different things to factor in, etc.  Like my great grandma, when she was low it took x amount of gumdrops to bring it back up.  So when my dad drinks like 2 cans of Mt. Dew and it barely touches him, she was always thinking he was taking too much.  He and I both use more to bring our sugars back up.  And every time it's different.  And that's what sucks.

whine whine whine, continuted.....

Re: My challenge today:

I was on the waiting list to get in to see my therapist sooner than the next appointment (next Friday, 29th), but today I got a call for an appointment on this Friday at 3.  I'm takin' that puppy, getting away from the garage sale for an hour or so, though I am leaving the house, I'm still gonna be careful.  Getting away is the biggie

Re: My challenge today

Bananas contain three natural sugars - sucrose, fructose and glucose. Combined with fiber, a banana gives an instant, sustained and substantial boost of energy. Research has proven that just two bananas provide enough energy for a strenuous 90-minute workout. No wonder the banana is the number one fruit with the world's leading athletes.

But energy isn't the only way a banana can help us keep fit. It can also help overcome or prevent a substantial number of illnesses and conditions, making it a must to add to our daily diet.

Depression: According to a recent survey undertaken by MIND amongst people suffering from depression, many felt much better after eating a banana. This is because bananas contain tryptophan, a type of protein that the body converts into serotonin, known to make you relax, improve your mood and generally make you feel happier.

PMS: Forget the pills - eat a banana. The vitamin B6 it contains regulates blood glucose levels, which can affect your mood.

Anemia: High in iron, bananas can stimulate the production of hemoglobin in the blood and so helps in cases of anemia.

Blood Pressure: This unique tropical fruit is extremely high in potassium yet low in salt, making it the perfect to beat blood pressure. So much so, the US Food and Drug Administration has just allowed the banana industry to make official claims for the fruit's ability to reduce the risk of blood pressure and stroke.

Brain Power: 200 students at a Twickenham (Middlesex) school were helped through their exams this year by eating bananas at breakfast, break, and lunch in a bid to boost their brain power. Research has shown that the potassium-packed fruit can assist learning by making pupils more alert.

Constipation: High in fiber, including bananas in the diet can help restore normal bowel action, helping to overcome the problem without resorting to laxatives.

Hangovers: One of the quickest ways of curing a hangover is to make a banana milkshake, sweetened with honey. The banana calms the stomach and, with the help of the honey, builds up depleted blood sugar levels, while the milk soothes and re-hydrates your system.

Heartburn: Bananas have a natural antacid effect in the body, so if you suffer from heartburn, try eating a banana for soothing relief.

Morning Sickness: Snacking on bananas between meals helps to keep blood sugar levels up and avoid morning sickness.

Mosquito bites: Before reaching for the insect bite cream, try rubbing the affected area with the inside of a banana skin. Many people find it amazingly successful at reducing swelling and irritation.

Nerves: Bananas are high in B vitamins that help calm the nervous system.

Overweight and at work: Studies at the Institute of Psychology in Austria found pressure at work leads to gorging on comfort food like chocolate and crisps. Looking at 5,000 hospital patients, researchers found the most obese were more likely to be in high-pressure jobs. The report concluded that, to avoid panic-induced food cravings, we need to control our blood sugar levels by snacking on high carbohydrate foods every two hours to keep levels steady.

Ulcers: The banana is used as the dietary food against intestinal disorders because of its soft texture and smoothness. It is the only raw fruit that can be eaten without distress in over-chronicler cases. It also neutralizes over-acidity and reduces irritation by coating the lining of the stomach.

Temperature control: Many other cultures see bananas as a "cooling" fruit that can lower both the physical and emotional temperature of expectant mothers. In Thailand, for example, pregnant women eat bananas to ensure their baby is born with a cool temperature.

Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD): Bananas can help SAD sufferers because they contain the natural mood enhancer tryptophan.

Smoking: Bananas can also help people trying to give up smoking. The B6, B12 they contain, as well as the potassium and magnesium found in them, help the body recover from the effects of nicotine withdrawal.

Stress: Potassium is a vital mineral, which helps normalize the heartbeat, sends oxygen to the brain and regulates your body's water balance. When we are stressed, our metabolic rate rises, thereby reducing our potassium levels. These can be rebalanced with the help of a high-potassium banana snack.

Strokes: According to research in "The New England Journal of Medicine," eating bananas as part of a regular diet can cut the risk of death by strokes by as much as 40%!

The ubiquitous banana really is a natural remedy for many ills. When you compare it to an apple, it has four times the protein, twice the carbohydrates, three times the phosphorus, five times the vitamin A and iron, and twice the other vitamins and minerals. It is also rich in potassium and is one of the best value foods around. So maybe its time to change that well-known phrase so that we say,

A banana a day keeps the doctor away.

yes, thank you for the scripture and the encouragement...and well done!  i was just thinking to say to keep healthful snacks with you because you know diabetics are supposed to have more little meals than you are having...cheese blocks, apples and peanut butter, which jiff is making in dipping sizes now, or lil packs of two cheese n crackers would be good...all i can think of at the mo...
