hello all!  Well, my favorite time of year (It's the New Year for me and my fellow pagans) is fast approaching and I am all a flutter with how to aknowledge the day and most importantly the night!  I have been digging and scrounging for recipes, spells and/or incantations for All Hallows Eve.  WHAT ARE YOU GONNA BE FOR HALLOWEEN? I won't go into the origins of Samhain and how it is practiced today by Christians and Pagans alike under the guise of trick or treating( Paganism as well as any number of other Earth Religions, is many moons older than Christianity ; of course you can't say it out loud or all HELL might literally break loose, so shhh).  A great quick reference on the subject of celebrating Samhain is by Gerina Dunwich called "The Pagan Book of Halloween".  There are a number of more extensive books on the subject which are indepth and deeply involved (Dunwich has some others) but if you want a quick read on the basics, this particular book of  Dunwich's is great.  Enough of that, let's get to the problem I am facing; WHAT ARE YOU GONNA BE FOR HALLOWEEN?

I am having some trouble deciding whether  to have a party or not.  If I have a party then I need a costume!  I was a gypsy last year, which wasn't much of a stretch.  myclette was Lt. Uhura (I don't know how to spell the name, but the only female Lt. I think and she and Captain Kirk shared the first on screen inter-racial kiss. .  This year I don't know, maybe I will be a witch, but again its a bit on the nose!  Not only is there Halloween to think about but there is also RenFest which starts in Oct this year and is going to be a series of theme weekends!!  I was a Fairy last year but what of this year?  Myclette was a pirate, Yargh Matey! So many decisions to make but all fun ones!!!

Oh by the way, WHAT ARE YOU GONNA BE FOR HALLOWEEN?

Let me know, I need ideas!

Goddess Bless

Hmmm...perhaps I could be a witch?  Oh wait - I am one of those on a daily basis...  *smirk*

I don't usually dress up - but I will be sure to celebrate the holiday in some way...

On the contrary, if you are a Witch then I am in good company *she smiles as she dances in the full moon light and bays at the glowing orb with her sisterhood*

I wasn't sure if you were a witch or a Pagan in general.

Last halloween my girlfriend at the time wanted to dress like a catholic school girl and wanted me to dress like a priest. I was totally down for her dressing as a  catholic school girl, but I thought me dressing like a priest was kind of creepy.
I don't belong to any one religion or spiritual path, but I've always liked the connection the Earth religions have had with...well, the Earth heh.
It seems like the Abrahamic religions have turned the Earth into our enemy. Its as if the Earth is something to be conquered and subdued instead of respected.

Here, Here!!  For some reason humans think that they are the be all end all life-force on the planet!!!!  We want everything to bend or break for our comfort.  We will realize too late that the planet is not for us but we are "of" it.

Are you doing anything fun for the Equinox?

I actually want to go to the park and somehow have a small ritual outside.  It is difficult to have a ritual at my house because I live in an apartment and don't have much personal space.  I am going to do a ritual to honor the Oak King (Winter Solstice) at night and enjoy a long day of fasting (maybe).  I wish I had someplace nice and serene like the places in your photos!  Are you doing something special?

I'll be starting a 10 day fast on the 23rd for political/spiritual reasons.  Aside from that, I don't have much planned.

Re: Love Is The Law of Wicca: Focus Samhain (pronounced; sow-in)
whoa! 10 days.  Do you only fast from sun-up to sun-down or is it just water for 10 days straight?  why on the 23rd?  Is something of import happening on that day or is that just the day you chose to start?

In 1981, ten Irish freedom fighters went on hunger strike against the British Government that was holding them as political prisoners.  These ten men starved to death before the Brits would give in to the prisoners demands.  I will be going completely with out food, but will continue to take vitamins and drink water and juices.  The Irish hunger strike came to an end on Oct 3rd, so counting back one day for each of the dead, I arrived at the 23rd for the day tto begin my fast.

That is really interesting and tragic.  It is good that you are acknowledging their sacrifice and honor it as well!  Are you evacuating because of Hurricane Rita? Or is it coming to your area?  I am leaving tonight to go to higher ground.

I'm 120 miles North West of San Antonio.  I hope that we a least get a little rain out of the storm, but we might not even get that.  It is amazing just how big Texas is. It can swallow a Cat 5 hurricane and half the area won't even get a shower.

I know that's pretty startling.  With all the news coverage it seems that the entire world will be swallowed whole.  I was going to stay but decided against it with the upgrade to Cat 5.  Hopefully there will be something left to come back to.  Hope you guys get a safe and decent shower!

bless
