Well I'm voting for YOU today!
Well, if you're running for president you've got my attention! I've been thinking along the same lines as you, as I'm sure most of us are... because it will eventually get to the countdown. And the loyalty in a specific party is not meaning too much to me. I, and I'm sure most, will be looking to someone that sticks to their principles. Really checking your guy/gal record well, CONSISTENCY... is important to me... waffling scares me. our freedom and constitutional rights are on top of my list. What are and 'has been' their views on taxes, the budget, restriction/freedom on gun ownership. Did they vote for or against the Iraq war; for or against the Patriot Act; for or against regulating the Internet - yada yada..but how Consistent.??? And remembering information is biased... but there are certain records that are solid too.. Yes.. and if they let us down, environgirl, it hurts and we can't deal with it as we would on a personal level like the folks we live around.... that's why it is such an important, Very important thing to really study... to watch and ponder - but I don't know... their basic principle - do they show signs of greed in their own lives? I am very much for war if it is to protect ourselves in our Own country and feel strongly about protecting our borders. But to go into a Nation or country that is not ours... and attempt to re-arrange lives - well, people themselves must do that on their own territory. When someone tells me they love their children but has a history of voting to allow the children of Iraq to be slaughtered, I know they don't truly love their own children - that's something a slick politician can't go back (in my book) and say, 'whoops, I guess I shouldn't have voted that way.'. Another past example, when someone is against drugs but allows a drug-running operation to flourish (Contras), I know they are not really anti-drug. When someone tells me they are 'pro-life' but for the death penalty, I know they are lying to me, and themselves because who am I or who are that can judge to murder someone? Oh... I believe in protecting our homeland; I believe folks have a right to protect their own homes as well... Whoops... looking at the clock and gotta appointment... later gal! and yes, we've been thinking parallel of responsibility and doing all we can ... the best effort in voting our conscience... but only after much, much study... We understand our personal friends (or non-friends) by their track records.
Rraspberry and I were on the phone last night talking about some of this stuff. I am considering Canada more & more every day. (of course that is once I get a job, save some money & can afford to go).
you've raised a good question that i am sure others are already thinking hard about. i have no interest in any republican at this point. so i am focusing more on the democratic side of the race. it really can be confusing though. the only personal stuff that we ever hear about the candidates usually comes from a tabloid so you cant even be sure thats true. so what do we really ever learn about the person that we support or plan to vote for??????
They all may be a bunch of crooks, but I'd recommend going with the Democratic candidate--better track record as human beings.
