'At the 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, My parents keep on telling me,
Just being here is winning,
Although, I know it isn't so...'
Today, William Barfee will spell words with his magic foot for the last time, and Chip Tolentino will have his last unfortunate erection. PUTNAM COUNTY IS CLOSING!
*Teardrop+moment of silence*
Yes, I know its still alive on tour, in Chicago, etc., but its no longer on broadway!
I suppose though, its for the best... I mean, if it remained, there might have been a movie adaptation, spawning hundreds of assholes singing "My Unfortunate Erection".
While its theatre goes dark, rest assured that the spirit of '25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee' will remain in our hearts and minds for all eternity, and the CD is in my loving hands. While my playbill is not signed, I still saw the entire original cast (except for Marcy Parks, who was understudied, and William Barfey, the originator of that role left the cast). I also saw Jesse Tyler Ferguson live, and although 'The Class' was a failure of a sitcom, he is still the shit.
Circle in the Square theatre (Although the shape of it is really a rectangle in an oval...) will never have held a better play than thissun.
I love you, Putnam County, THOU SHALT BE MISSED! *Tears*
