There is nothing so frustrating as to be ignored or misunderstood. But funny we always are and do with each other. As I go about my life and business I’m often told that it’s all that I must do – mind my own business and leave others with theirs.

Are you sure that’s smart?
Are you sure that’s compassionate?
Are you sure that’s what being human is all about?

Smart is smart when you know that everything a person does stands connected to his neighbor or to the next person beside him, stranger or not. You can’t just go around brandishing your brand of living, speech, or behavior not caring who gets bumped or knocked down by your shadow as you pass it by. The day or moment, or on a larger scale as the world, does not center on you --- alone. It is composed of zillions of other creatures of life which share the center stage with you. They too matter as you do. They’ve got their own stories to tell and deserve to be heard. They’ve got their own ambitions or dreams and deserve to pursue it. They’ve got their desires, passions, and love and deserve to feel or express it. They’ve got their own share of sorrows and pain and deserve to be comforted and cared for. They are so much you – as you are so much them. Understanding this is being smart.

‘Am I my brother’s keeper?’  So you think that a miserable-looking man in ragged clothes dirty mien, roaming the streets begging for a penny does not concern you. Or a middle-aged guy looking out through the bars of his lonely cell is his just reward and that makes you feel safe. Or when thousands go hungry in a country far away is the fault of their lousy government and not yours. Or that the pedophile pouncing on young innocent victims is alright just as long as he doesn’t swoop down on your territory or your own brood. Oh but that concerns you – everything that is wrong whether it touches you directly or not – will concern you because it has the potential to hurt or harm you. But you have the power to change things if you want to. You may not be the government with all the resources in your hands nor a billionaire who can send off plane loads of food to Africa but you are you with your one voice, pair of hands, and a mind and heart that thinks and feels rightly when the time is come for it. You can with your one voice try to shift the eyes of the world to the plight of your poor world neighbors. You can point your finger to the instruments of evil threatening our families, communities, and the world. You can pack food and clothes and give it to the poor man on the street. It won’t take much to show compassion for another human being. All it takes is a mind and a heart which cares… truly cares. And I think that God made our heart to serve that purpose.

If you think that you are given life to do as you wish, the answer is no. Yes, we do mind our days with jobs we work at from 9 to 5 24/7, get married, raise families, send children to school but that’s not all there is to life and living. There’s more entwined there because you stand connected to the world outside too that will surely engage your fullest capacity, ability, or talent if you look hard and listen well. And that does not simply operate in your own small circle of family or close friends although it can begin there. It’s a huge expanse which covers your community, to people you’ve never seen before in your whole life, and to the world at large. One voice or one small step or one lighted candle can lead to bigger and better things for a greater number of people.

Do what you can with what you are and with what you have to shape lives, to bring hope, to tell your brothers regardless of race, color or creed that you are looking and you see --- that you hear and are listening. That is what being human is all about. And may you be blessed a hundredfold for it -- which I'm sure God is simply waiting to do for you.

Re: LOOKING BUT NOT SEEING - HEARING BUT NOT LISTENING
Ellen,
I have missed speaking to you... but I thought that you were looking for "new friends" and had decided to move on, so I did not respond to your last few posts... but you have not moved on.

In fact, you are asking for "Response. I just read your last post, and it was "Beautiful" and "Profound" just as you are, and always have been, since I have had the "Honor to know you.

I am still your number 1 fan! Just so you know... You are being heard! I just hope that others will read your posts, for you and I already think alike!

How are you Ellen? I have missed you.

Re: LOOKING BUT NOT SEEING - HEARING BUT NOT LISTENING
Dear Shaunasea,

I am glad you are here at last. I was hoping that you would. Smiley

No, I have not 'moved on' nor was I looking for 'new friends'. But I did look around for a new blog home -- a place where I could have more flexibility for the things I want to do in a blog. Anyway, to make a long story short, I've found it and spent time setting it up and why haven't been here for awhile. That doesn't mean tho that I would be leaving this place for good (although it did cross my mind somewhere back there Smiley..) But am keeping this because I have found wonderful people and good friendships -- like what I enjoy with you, Shaunasea. Further please know that I don't easily forget good friends. Our friendship is imprinted in the heart. Nothing can erase that.

But you're the special one. You have the knack of understanding me and the things I write here. You can see through the words and easily pluck out the message I want to convey. Quite a good batting average there I must say, Lols! Smiley  So I can say that friendship with you is like home where I feel safe and comfy. And talking with you is like having a fireside chat with a cup of warm coffee in our hands. Smiley.. and we chat away the hours just as we are -- real, goofy at times, flawed, and human.

You ask how I am -- well, life without him now and with three adult daughters trying to live their own lives pose a new set of challenges for me. But as sure as the morning sunrise, I know in my heart that I can handle this with God's good grace and friendship. Oh each day does make me feel a wee bit more older.. lols! .. but am fine. Thanks for asking.

Now it's your turn to tell me bout yourself. In your next mail, tell me what's happening in your life. I'd like to know how you are. It's been a long time indeed.

Hey, thank you for liking the post. Am delighted that you do. Smiley
See you around.. here or in your blog. Take care pls.

God bless you and your family.

Re: LOOKING BUT NOT SEEING - HEARING BUT NOT LISTENING
Dearest Ellen,
Thank you for writing such a "Beautiful letter" to me. Without a doubt, it deserves a "Beautiful answer, and I will try to answer your letter in detail within the week.  I pulled a muscle in my back yesterday while swimming, and can not sit in this computer chair for more than a few minutes. (My father, King Neptune, is telling me that it is not from the swimming, but from ("not swimming often enough) that my muscles are sore!) He is probably right about that. I have been perched on a sea rock for to long... or doing "Everything but exercising" for this past year! Now I am having difficulty sitting in this 'ol computer chair. Tomorrow, and each day, I "WILL" do my exercise, and then come back to write a little more, as soon as my back will allow.

I am so glad that you are O.K! Yes, we are long overdue for a fireside chat! LOl!  Smiley

(I should be back to normal within the week)

Re: LOOKING BUT NOT SEEING - HEARING BUT NOT LISTENING
Exercise - that reminds me that I too have turned quite slack in that area. Yes, it is time that we go back to our exercising groove Lols! Smiley Well, I've started today with a few minutes on the stepper. The weather outside is not the right one for my usual morning walks. The rainy season has begun to set it quite early, it's just May still part of summer but we're having rains already. Our climate and weather system has gone awry. Us humans seem to be doing a great job of breaking it up.

Swimming is one thing I would have loved to do -- if only I could overcome this fear of the sea. Maybe I would soak in the tub or a pool or play with the waters lapping on the shore but it's all I ever do. Am the shore version of a wall flower Lols! Smiley

Do get well soon, Shaunasea. Will be waiting for our fireside chat soon.
My prayers for your quick recovery.

Re: LOOKING BUT NOT SEEING - HEARING BUT NOT LISTENING
Dearest Ellen,
For now at least, since (I just sat down) my back is doing all right... it takes more time , and yes, the "exercise" to really heal.
I did not know that you have a fear of the sea... but if you do, than you are smart not to go where you radiate "Fear!" Fear seems to "attract" that which we fear... at least that is what I have always believed. On several occasions I swam in the same vacinity with sharks and large baracuda, but I always felt deeply that my spiritual "Love for the sea" was reciprocated by the sea, and that the sea itself would always "Protect me" and it has. Then after Steve Erwin died as the result of a "sting ray attack" I was truly shaken. Now I am not as confident as I used to be.

The weather here is just as awry. It is actually still chilly in the mornings, and we just now are seeing the sun after almost two weeks! It is unusual for early spring. In fact it has been snowing in Colorado!

I have taken up the task of learning "HTML" and "CSS" so that I can rebuild my "Blog Site!" It got "Zapped" when I tried to fix a picture, and pressed "Revert!"

Do you understand "HTML" and "CSS?" Do you use it when you post your photos or magazine clippings of photos???

Also taken up drawing again, with pastels! I prefer it to paint, as paint is really so much more messy! With pastels there is no wasted "clean up time for brushes" sinks, clothing, hands, face, and even furtiniture... as you guessed... I usually get more paint on me, and everything around me, than on the canvas! With the pastels, charcoal is also great for adding "drama!" I also bought a "Pastel eraser" that I an use, but try hard not to. I am trying to "draw more freely" and not try to make everything look like a photograph!

Do you do any kind of art?

I had better stop here, as I must answer the ol' Woodpecker, and I am sure that it will take a little time... I don't want my back to start in before I can reply.

Hugs to you, Ellen...
Please do stay in touch,

Thank you for your "Prayers,
And "Blessings to both you and your family, as well!"

Re: LOOKING BUT NOT SEEING - HEARING BUT NOT LISTENING
Well, it's not really 'fear of the sea' cos I love the sea and everything in it. Maybe it's the awareness of my inability to swim that makes me so afraid in it. Just as long as I don't go near its deep part, am okay. The reason why I don't like traveling on ships. Smiley

I don't really understand that stuff - HTML or CSS. What I do with pictures is to utilize the function provided by the site's Editor in its posting facility. It's worked for me so far. There usually is an icon set for this task.... and when you point your cusor on it, it reads   'Add/Insert Image'. Most of the photos I like are scanned and then saved unto a folder on my Desktop. So from there I get to pick the images I want to add/insert to my blog.  Smiley Am not tech-savvy at all, am just learning things as I go along. If I don't understand it, I don't do it. lols! Smiley

Yes, I draw as a hobby. Also design clothes - fashion rather. I use pencil and draw landscapes, my favorite subject. Am taking my cue from your interest in pastels... I might give it a shot too. Smiley Here I put in two just for you. Hope you like it.

Take care too, Shaunasea, especially of that back.
My prayers are for your quick healing and recovery.

Re: LOOKING BUT NOT SEEING - HEARING BUT NOT LISTENING
Oh, Wow! You are artistic! In both areas! (I am "Really wanting to buy that dress!) If I still had the figure on the model, that is! You really could be a "Winning fashion designer... the dress has so much originality, yet it is a "Sharp" and "naturally flowing" (not contrived) design! It is strange indeed that I also love to do "fashion design" (I began designing gowns at age 16! My mother discouraged me from becoming a professional designer, as she said that "one needs to learn to sew their designs from patterns!" I did not like sewing "at all" and so I quit designing clothes, but for an occasional sketch.

Thank you so very much Ellen, for taking the time to "explain" to me how you go about "posting your pictures! The only thing is... How do you "Find" the sites "Editor?" I mean, where is this "Posting facility found on Mindsay?" The one that reads add/insert image???

An easy way to learn how to swim, is if you have access to a pool. All you need to do is to to get into a corner of the pool, (at the shallow end) and dash across repeatedly to the ajacent corner, kicking your feet in whatever way feels natural to keep you afloat. The same goes for your arms, but in the beginning you just want to use your arms to dash across and then grab on. As you get more confident, you can move further out from the corner, but say where you are sure that you can stand up in the pool, should you miss the other corner! After you know instinctively how to stay afloat, you can work on the graceful arm and leg movements.

I will send you a picture of my latest drawing, once I am able to post!

I hope that the weather warms up for you soon!

I am going to try to exercise now... Grrr. ( Not my favorite thing!) I must "force" myself! Lol! Smiley

Re: LOOKING BUT NOT SEEING - HEARING BUT NOT LISTENING
When you do a reply to messages, it takes you to a blank message box ... the same one am writing on now as I type my reply to you.

-The menu or Editor is right here above this space meant for the message we write. You see all the necessary functions you need for posting and editing your text message.

-And if you can locate the web link icon (green color) at a glance, you will see that to its left (or to your right)  is a .....

-box with a picture of a mountain and the sun above it. That's the icon for the Insert/Modify Image. Point your cursor on that box and click on it.... and you're well on your way to posting images.

I hope that I have succeeded in pointing it out to you. Smileyam not really good in doing explanations or giving directions. lols!

So now with some practice you'll get the hang of it. And I will be seeing your drawings Wheeee!!! SmileyScan your drawings, save it on your desktop, and then do this insert function. Good luck!

We're having a bit of sun today... nice! But still the threat of a storm is looming there up north of the country.

Yeah,  get on with the exercise. Not my favorite thing too... but Girl, we must! lols Hey, we are quite similar in so many things --- you love to design too Wow! do you love green salads, ice cream, chocolate cakes, tea, white shirts and blue jeans, and tote bags? Mine is where I put in lots of stuff. lols My daughters say that inside my bag is a survival kit hahahahah Smiley... that they won't mind getting lost in the jungle as long as they have my tote bag along.  Daughters Ugh!! Smiley

Gotta go now... errands to do. See yah later!
Take care pls. Blessings to you and your family.

Re: LOOKING BUT NOT SEEING - HEARING BUT NOT LISTENING
Oh Dear Ellen,
I SEE IT!!!  Thank You for "getting me this far! I am astonished that I never even noticed that icon with the "mountain and the sun over it!

I just need to ask you how to get the pictures (I already have scanned MANY on my desktop... (at least I learned that much... how to scan onto desktop) ... how to get the pictures from the desktop onto the mindsay page? Do you have to know how to have "both windows open on your monitor" at the same time?" If so, I will have to learn "how to do that!"

You are such a "Sweetheart!" You are really "doing so much to help the animals, by helping me! You are the only one of my "Mindsay" friends that has taken the time to do so. Indeed, you are a "Real Friend!"

Yes we do have so much in common! I love all the things you mentioned, but can't have them all! (However, I fell in love with the purses that you snap around your waist, because you then don't have to have to carry anything at all.) They have to be large enough however to carry all the basics! For me, that is just my keys, garage door opener, wallet, a comb, and a lipstick! I occasionally do buy a beautiful "tote" but rarely use it now! Only when I really need to " tote a lot of papers around!" I think I "Would be "lost" in the woods!" You can rescue me in the woods, and I will rescue you at sea! How is that!

I am so tempted to click on that "Icon" but I had better wait until you get back to me, or I may "somehow delete" this post! I am "Very talented at such." Smiley
ellen622 on
Re: LOOKING BUT NOT SEEING - HEARING BUT NOT LISTENING
Oh don't be afraid to click on that icon cos it won't delete your post but neither will it take you anywhere. Because unfortunately, mindsay cannot upload images but only through a service such as Photobucket or Imageshack Why I know? Because I wrestled with that awhile ago trying to find a way for you to insert images off your desktop. Didn't know that until now. Silly me! I presumed too much thinking that it was like the other blog sites wherein I could simply copy/paste my stuff from there to here.

But mindsay has this facility to upload images called Post Images. It can create a photo gallery for you -- kind of a mindsay in-house storage (supported by Imageshack) of pictures. This could make inserting images to your post easy. But I will first check it out before I tell you how it works. You can perhaps take a leisurely cruise down that mindsay highway too. Smiley

You can open two or more windows online on your computer. I do that often as I monitor my other blogs. If it's Internet Explorer you're using, you can click on File and then click on New Window. You can open several windows if you so desire. But be careful cos having too many open windows on your computer screen can be quite unmanageable and confusing. Have tried it lols Smiley   -If you're using Mozilla Firefox, you can click on File and then click on New Tab or Window - whichever you wish. I prefer New Tab as I find it easier to work with when I'm on multiple blogging. Because I need simply to click on the Tab correspondingly to the site I want to see right on the same main window. Cool uh? Smiley

Oh I do have one of those purses too -- quite handy when doing the marketing... and on short trips to the mall. But my daughters say that the tote is my trademark hahaha Smiley  It rather serves as a perk for them -- they put in their money purses and celphones in my tote when they don't carry their own bags. Oh I don't mind it, anyway we alternate in carrying the tote. lols!!! Sometimes I don't even get to carry it at all --- wheeee free hands!!!!

Heyyy that's a good trade -- you in the sea with me, me in the woods with you. Right!! Smiley

Oops raining hard now, with strong winds... got to close some windows.
See yah! Always take care. God bless!!

Re: LOOKING BUT NOT SEEING - HEARING BUT NOT LISTENING
Ellen, I did it! I clicked on the icon with the sun over the mountain, and this little window came up, just as you described... with one catch! The first thing it asks for is my URL? I have no idea "What my URL is." Do you ignore this, and just post your picture? Or do you have to "figure out that crazy-making stuff first?"

The rain and wind sounds surprisingly pleasant on this "hot night that we are experiencing here in California." The wildfires have started up again... as they do every year, and though they are in another county, the heat still travels far.

Actually I really grew up in a very wooded area, so I do love the woods, with it's trees, and mountain streams.

By the way, did you mention Chocolate cake? Make way for a "headlong dive, across the table!" I still can have that... and "Cherry Pie" (Another Favorite!)

On special occasions I buy the "Cinnamon Tea!" Have you tried that? It really is good, if you love cinnamon as I really do... those cinnamon buns are "Yummy" as well, but I can't have them to often... nor the cake. Just now and then.

Salads are healthful, and wonderful, but my system can not handle them. I need to eat much starchier veggies such as "lima beans." Not that I am wild about them, but they have a pleasant flavor, and at least it is "Greenery!" Need to also go very sparingly on "Fruit!" I usually just stick to a small glass of "Cranberry juice" every morning... and that stays well! My body has become so resistant to so many foods, that it is now quite a challenge to contend with... can not handle ice cream either... no dairy products at all. Oh well, as long as there is "Cherry Pie!" Yes, there will always be "Cherry Pie!" Oh dear, now I am envisioning "Chocolate cream pies,  "Pumpkin Pies," and "Cocoanut pies!" All with whipped cream!  My mind is suddenly "swimming" in pies! I think I am in "Big Trouble" here!

Are you like "pies" also Ellen? If so, which are your "Favorite!

I designed a gown today, and also found another of my drawings... and so this morning I added them to my desktop... so I am all ready to send them to you... I just need to know how to handle the "URL" and the "Actual steps" of getting the picture from the esktop, onto the mindsay page. We are "Almost there! Smiley

Re: LOOKING BUT NOT SEEING - HEARING BUT NOT LISTENING
Oh it looks like you haven't seen the previous reply I did. So am bringing the first lines here again for you.
--------------------------------------------

Oh don't be afraid to click on that icon cos it won't delete your post but neither will it take you anywhere. Because unfortunately, mindsay cannot upload images but only through a service such as Photobucket or Imageshack.   Why I know? Because I wrestled with that awhile ago trying to find a way for you to insert images off your desktop. Didn't know that until now. Silly me! I presumed too much thinking that it was like the other blog sites wherein I could simply copy/paste my stuff from there to here.
---------------------------------------------------

So then this means that you have to open an account with Photobucket or Imageshack... upload your stuff there. You can store the image you would like to use on a service such as Photobucket or Imageshack or some other similar site. Once you upload your picture, they will provide you with the URL to enter. It is then this which you will copy and then paste to that mindsay window which asked for the URL.

Oh I love the woods too although I was born and grew up in the city. And I love the sea. My grandfather was a fisherman. I treasure those times he would come home from fishing and tell me stories bout his day at sea. Smiley

Gee! so many food restrictions. But so am I -- no salt, no sweets, no oil, no fats. Ugh! But we both still have the PIES!! I love apple pies and coconut pies. Yummy!!

You did a gown today? WOW!  Quick quick I'd like to see it! Puhleeezz? SmileyOkay here's the link of Photobucket >>>   http://photobucket.com/

Re: LOOKING BUT NOT SEEING - HEARING BUT NOT LISTENING
Oh Dear Ellen,
I did see the previous reply... I just did not understand what it implied... that is,... that I would actually need to open an account with Photobucket, Imageshack, or some other. That is O.K! I will do it!

Yes, I can't wait to get that set up, but I am going to have to wait until after dinner, as I first have to think up a "Username" and "Password!" Also, I havn't had a "morcel" since breakfast, and need some strength to be able to go through another "join up" with another website! They rarely make it easy!

It is Saturday night... I wonder if I will actually be "Registered" until Monday morning? Well, in either case, I will be back here in an hour or so, and "Forge Ahead!"

You are a "Real Pal" to me, and our "Animals," hanging in there with me, like this! (Whisker Kisses!!!) That's how my kids and I always end our phone calls. (:<

Yes, I will try to send that gown design, and the picture, as soon as they allow! That is, if I don't run into more confusion... that is something that I have almost come to expect with all of this "crazy-making-technology" ... Ugh!

Oh! An apple pie sounds good! Hmmmm! I wonder if there is any "Pie" in the "Fridge!" If there was, someone probably ate it already... That is how they keep me slender... (well, fairly slender) You see, they are "doing me a "favor" by eating up "all the "Yummy stuff" first! (Actually, they are!) But who needs "Those" kind of "Favors!" Ah What??? Hugs, Shaunasea
ellen622 on
Re: LOOKING BUT NOT SEEING - HEARING BUT NOT LISTENING
That's okay, although you can also use the same id/password you're using in mindsay. And online sites are managed 24/7. Joining a site actually takes only bout a few seconds of your time. And the new sites on the Internet block are making the whole thing quite easy for its clients. So don't worry, it'll be just fine. Smiley

Heyyy, don't tell me that you sometimes skip your meals. Please don't, and eat a full breakfast. My doc tells me it's the most important meal of the day. Actually, she has instructed me to take 5 small meals a day, not the 3 or 4 regular ones. So it starts off with breakfast -- oatmeal, egg, fruit, tea. Then a fruit midmorning before lunch. Here I get rice (a staple for Filipino homes), fish, vegetables, and fruit. At mid-afternoon a small snack - peanut butter sandwich and tea. Then comes dinner which is almost the same as lunch. But I cheat lols --- with pies for snacks. Smiley and yeah, they 'ravage' the pies before I can get to it. Ugh!!! Smiley

God bless, Shaunasea!

Re: LOOKING BUT NOT SEEING - HEARING BUT NOT LISTENING
Yes Ellen, it really is best if I wait until Monday to "Sign In" as there will "hopefully" be a "living," being there... in case I run into a problem... as I have been known to do... when signing in. When I was at the Apple Store, the various teachers used my web address, here there, and everywhere, to gather odd material for my blog... like the picture of the "tree frog." However, most of the pictures were from my own collection, that I have saved in stacks of boxes. I can't begin to know where I wrote the "Passwords!" Then my web provider was changed after that! (I can't remember if they tapped into Photobucket, or Imageshack! Keep your fingers crossed!

I do not go to the Apple store anymore, as I can never get any of the teachers that I ask for... they keep giving me all the "New ones" that havn't a clue as to how to use "Photostudio!"They stand there for an "Hour" just trying to figure out how to access it! When they "get a clue" the hour is up! And since one can not expect to have the same teacher twice, the whole process starts over again the next time! It was becoming ridiculous! I just got sick of their "Policies" and "Lack of interest in their customers specific needs! The manager himself was very nice to me, but said that "his hands were tied!" He had to follow the store's policy. Actually, it was one of the Apple stores teachers that originally installed Photostudio on my computer? I may have to switch over to "Photoshop!"

What city were you born in Ellen? Was it there in the Philippines? I never did ask you how you learned to write and speak English so well! My guess is that you must have lived here in the United States for a long while... am I right?

I was born in New York, but not in the city. It was a lovely country place. later my parents moved into the city... therefore I spent my childhood in the country, and my teens in the city.

It is almost 10:30 here, so I had better "hit the hay" so to speak. That is the expression that my father always used... it comes from a time when people actually slept in the hay lofts! A simpler time, I would imagine, but who can be sure. Blessings, Shaunasea

ellen622 on
Re: LOOKING BUT NOT SEEING - HEARING BUT NOT LISTENING
Yeah, those people manning the stores sometimes are not much help. Smiley If you have a friend who is quite handy with this technology, perhaps your friend can help you with it.

SmileyNever have been to the States. I was born and raised here in Manila. My mother was a teacher when she met my Dad. And when she had us kids... she raised us in the English language. It was funny that while our playmates were yet studying colors, my kid brother and I were talking bout railroads and trains. Smiley And mom would buy us tons of books which helped us learn English more. It served us well in school and later at work.... an advantage which served us both in good stead. I realized it then that mom intended it that way because she wanted to give us the edge. She knew that it would help ease the way for us to college and to  jobs later in life.  And she was right! Smiley

Oh do keep in touch. Let me know how you're doing. I really am eager to see your designs. And if it's okay with you, send me a tiny picture of yourself please? SmileyI'd like to see a face attached to the lovely name of Shaunasea.

Blessings to you and your family.

Re: LOOKING BUT NOT SEEING - HEARING BUT NOT LISTENING
That is quite "Amazing" Ellen! That your mom taught you English, while all the while, in Manilla! Was your mom English or American?

It is so difficult to learn a second language, if you don't speak it "All of the time!" But then you actually do, through the "Internet!"

You can always get a "Great job" as an "Interpreter" if you ever have the need!

Oh, don't worry, I do eat a very "Balanced diet" making certain to get enough each day of the breads, or brown rice, soy protein, greenery, and a fruit. Also eat pumpkin for vitamin A.(Right from the can, with Tofuti on top!) Then I have an "Entire basket" of vitimins! If I eat more than two meals a day, I will put on weight! But I always have brazil nuts, almonds, pine, and cashew nuts, along with a chicita banana for a quick lunch! You are right! Breakfast "IS" the most important meal of the day. That is when I have my (I use the Morningstar brand) soy sausage patties, (They are really "Yummy") with dark Rye bread, and plenty of tomato sauce on top of it... the kind with "Pesto" instead of "meat sauce... it tastes even better! Sometimes I just spread Tofuty on the bread... it is a wonderful product that takes the place of "cream cheese!" Also, they have excellent soy cheese now, that I put on the bread, when the tofuty runs out. Get lots of real calcium from my "vitimen basket!" Over 1000 mgs. per day, since i can't eat broccoli, and such.(It may be spelled Tofuti, with an i... I will have to see. Am out of it now, so have to shop again today. It can't be frozen, so it only lasts a week. That is why I also buy the soy cheese. That can be frozen.

Well, am going to freshen up now, and at 1:00 or thereabouts, I will try to log in!

I will see if I can find an older pic of me that I can post, (I still look basically the same, except for a few... ahem,... "Character lines!" Well, actually, they "Are!") If men can have "Character lines" why can't we? It will take me some time to find the picture, so I will just post the other two first... the gown, and the drawing! Well, that is, if I can "Log In!"

I sure hope so! Lol!!!

Re: LOOKING BUT NOT SEEING - HEARING BUT NOT LISTENING
SmileyMom is Filipina, taught in the lower grades, but she was excellent in the English language. Her father (my grandpop) was an American of mixed American-German blood (Engle) and a soldier-teacher when he came to the country. After the war (the first) he stayed on, met and married grandma. They raised 9 children. Grandpop turned himself into a successful shrewd businessman in their city and acquired properties. So they were quite well-off. Unfortunately their blessings didn't trickle down to their descendants. All because of a greedy ambitious lawyer/son-in-law. The long and short of it all is that the Engles lost it all to him.  Smiley

So you love soy products. A very healthy choice. But I yet have to try
soy sausage patties, soy cheese, Tofuty. I don't know if I can find those here. Oh maybe in some specialty stores. Will try to see.

Goody, three treats in store for me soon -- your picture, the gown, and the drawing. Looking forward to a great day with that. Smiley

Re: LOOKING BUT NOT SEEING - HEARING BUT NOT LISTENING
Well "That is interesting, because my mother's father was also from Germany... that is, of German blood, but on my fathers side there was Russian blood. Still, the English/Irish blood runs through my mother's mother, and my fathers father, as well, making my brother and I an interesting mix...

Yes, the soy products are great, once you find the ones that appeal most to you! They contain no "artey clogging cholestral" so it is worth finding!! They say that if you eat "No meat" than you need to take one b12 suppliment daily. I do that, just in case they are correct.

I logged in to photobucket, and was "totally lost!" Then I received an e-mail from them to click onto, both to verify my e-mail address, and to lead me to a tutorial! I clicked on the "tutorial" late that night, so I was tired, but it did appear as though I will need a "tutorial" to understand their "tutorial!" I will go back again over this weekend, to see if I can makeany sense of it! OMG Ellen? Who comes up with this "crazy-making" stuff?

Anyway, I need to tell you... it will probably take some time before I can unscramble all that mess of jargin, and actually know how to post pictures... so please don't expect anything for some time. I can only sit at the computer for a half hour a day, because of my back... although it often runs into an hour, and then I am in trouble again. Hugs.

Oh dear me, here am I sitting at the computer and trying to send off replies to messages in my inbox.  Smiley'Been so busy with lots of things. Three birthdays in a row --- three daughters lols!!!

That is truly interesting - German blood. So it's not only in our hobbies that we seem to agree but even our blood line to an extent. hahah Smiley

Oh don't worry, we have all the time in the world to share our work with each other. Take your sweet time. I'm just here.

Re: LOOKING BUT NOT SEEING - HEARING BUT NOT LISTENING
Yes, German, Russian, English, and irish!

It is interesting that the German people were the "First" to pass laws giving their Animals the exact same "Legal Protection" as their Children! Austria also!(That is also a German county!

What makes me "Furious" is the "Outrageous Comment" that Hitler loved animals! To that I reply: Is that why he had all of their parents killed, and left them heartbroken, and defenseless to starve to death! (Actually, if you go back to his autobiographys, they have found that he was "Not" of True German Blood at all!) No one is sure "What he was... Except a "Monster!"

I think that "Vladamier Peutin" (did I spell that right?) was a "Really sexy looking man!" Still is, to a degree! Of course I am not "Thrilled with that country's political attitude" but that is another story.

I "Love" the way the "English" speak, and feel slightly cheated, that my "English Blood" has been brought to a country that has so destroyed the "Kings English!" Here it is made into something without charm... pretty much "Flat" and "Boring!" There are one or two exceptions... The midwestern accent is charming, and also the southern accent can be charming! But for the rest of the country... "It is "Just plain Flat!" The New York accent, from where I am from, being one of the "Worst!" Thank God that I did not "copy it!" I do sound like a real Californian, strangely enough! It is "Strange" because I did, even before I got here! Lol!

Now we're having history lessons too. lols Smiley Mine runs through Spanish, Chinese, yeah German, and a dash of Italian. My cousin Philip got the Italian look to a 'T' -- bushy eyebrows, deepset eyes, long nose, and a gorgeous smile. Smiley

I love the English language, yes. But I think that I have the local intonation in my English. Smiley
Writing and speaking it are two things different... but my friends say that I speak more like an American, whatever that means. lols especially now that am learning from you bout the different accents of different states there. Am grateful to my mom tho (as I've mentioned earlier to you) for she had the hindsight or foresight or insight .. hahahah Smiley... that learning English early would and can help me and my kid brother move around easily, career-wise or travel-wise. She was right.

Ohhhh Putin is sexy?? Hmmm I better take a better look at his pictures lols!! Smiley

As for Hitler, that person still was a hideous monster murderer twisting innocent lives round his monstrous evil finger. Gee, I always get furious just hearing his name. UGH!!  Anyway the world got rid of him -- I hope no one's following after his evil mind in our time.

Oops, gotta go --- feed my pets their lunch.
See you soon! Smiley

Re: LOOKING BUT NOT SEEING - HEARING BUT NOT LISTENING
A dash of ITALIAN? Oh dear, if I could be born in any country, it would be in Italy, AS an Italian! Preferably VENICE! The Italian men are the "Most Fun" to be with! They are not at all "Stuffy, but so "Free Spirited!" We have not been to italy, but before I was married, I dated a few Italian men! (Only they were born here.) Yet they still had that Great Fun Loving Spirit!) It must be in their DNA!

My mailman, who is Philippino, (I think that I told you about him before) still flirts with me, though he knows that it is not going anywhere, for we are both married... but not to each other! Anyway, he has that way about him as well! Like the Italian men! He is always "Bright with laughter," always joking, and "Very Flirty!" He is also "Extremely ... Well lets just say ...WOW! I met another Philippino man years ago, who also had that "WOW" factor! Tell me Ellen, are most Philippino men like this? If so, the Italians do have some "WILD" competition!

My husband has that "WOW" factor too... or I wouldn't have married him.

I still want to read some more of your blogs! I had better do that tomorrow, as I have been sitting at the computer for well over an hour now, and that will spell "back ache" again, if I don't quit for the night. Hugs, Shaunasea

Re: LOOKING BUT NOT SEEING - HEARING BUT NOT LISTENING
Well, most Filipino men are easy-going, fun-loving, funny, and yes quite 'flirty'. lols! Smiley I think that describes your Filipino mailman.

You're reading the blogs? wow! great! let me know what you think about it. But something tells me that you will easily relate to one or two in there -- cos we seem to be alike in many things. And in other areas, we tend to share inputs, observations, insights -- such are always precious moments to me. Love our 'fireside chats' Lols! Smiley

Re: LOOKING BUT NOT SEEING - HEARING BUT NOT LISTENING
Thank you for this blog. It is so true that everything we do affects everyone around us, like a ripple effect, going out from us to others.  Yes, we should cultivate the practice of  listening and caring, because what we do and how we act comes back to us in return.

It is good to see you! Is the other blog working out well for you? Are you making money with your blogs? I am supposed to be learning how to do that, but I have clammed up with fear and have not gone forward with it yet.

I am going on now to read the latest post.  I was in Kentucky when you wrote it, and am just not getting caught up again.

Love and blessings, dear!

Hi Bonnie,

Great to see you again. Thank you for appreciating the piece.
Nope, I haven't made money with my blogs. Friends are suggesting it,
but like you I can't seem to trust the process or trust the people who I
really don't know. Things could go wrong, no one ever knows, and I
can't see how it could be fixed by simply a system in place. I'd rather
talk with live people. Smiley

Blessings to you, dear friend.

Oh no, no apologies required there pls. I did thought bout 'making money' with the blog.
But for the reasons I've told you, I think that I need somebody who can guide me
through it. It's something I can't do alone -- it's just way over my little ole head Lols! Smiley

Gosh, Bonnie, nobody's said that to me before! SmileyThank you. You know, good thing

You "Are" Beautiful Ellen! As is your family! I would have told you that right away, but with all of the "talk about gay marriage in California, I was "afraid that you might get the "wrong idea." (I know... I always worry about "something!") It is one of the "goofy" things that I find "hardest to live with" in myself, but I still persist in doing so!

Anyway, back to the "Pies!" If I sit here any longer, there won't be "Anything left to have for dinner!

Ellen, I do "Understand,... Believe me,... (about sometimes feeling old) but then there are other times when we "Still feel young!" Trouble is... no one seems to "Notice!"

But for the most part, I do feel older as well... (where just the "Thought" of dealing with the "Got-a-do's" of life, make me weary... but the "GOOD NEWS IS... WE HAVE THE BEST EXCUSE IN THE WORLD TO TAKE MORE CAT-NAPS! I am up to two or sometimes "THREE' CAT-NAPS A DAY! THANK GOD FOR T.V. AND ROASTED ALMONDS! (Actually, "Brazil nuts are my "True Favorite" but they are hard to find here, for some reason?)

I guess after a certain age, it's all about "Pies and Nuts!" No, I am being silly! I still am trying to "Rebuild my post for our Animals, and keep pretty busy with that, and helping to support the various Animal Rights/Welfare groups, as much as I am still able.

You are also, all of the lovely things that you described me as... for as the old saying goes... "It takes one to know one!" You're friendship means a great deal to me Ellen. "Hugs" Shaunasea

"...there are other times when we "Still feel young!" Trouble is... no one seems to "Notice!"..." That is so true. But truly it's okay cos as you have said it right --- we have more time to do things we love -- napping, reading, gardening, or simply gazing at a lovely sunset. And yes to pies and nuts. lols Smiley

I admire what you're doing for our animals. They've got a champion in you. Each time I look at my three pet dogs and one cat, my heart goes out to thanking you for helping make a safer world for them alongside people.

Thanks, Shaunasea, for -- you. I pray that God bless our friendship through the years. Smiley

Ellen, "Thank You!" "Sincerely!" "I can count on one hand the number of times that people "outside of my immediate family" have said such "Precious" words to me! It is wonderful to feel appreciated, but the "Only reason that I "Speak out for our Animals, is because I "See Their Innocence, and I Dearly Love Them, as do you. Speaking of which, "I have noticed that You," indeed do in your own way,"Speak Out" for our Animals... that is the element that "drew us together in the very beginning! Then, as time went by, we learned of all of the other values that we share!

And yes, Ellen, I am certain that God will "Bless Our Friendship" through the years!

Re: LOOKING BUT NOT SEEING - HEARING BUT NOT LISTENING
SmileyYes, that was wonderful, wasn't it?  Let me tell you a story. Our neighbor about two houses away from ours has two dogs... Mack and Brownie. One day the guys from the dog pound went round the neighborhood catching stray dogs. Brownie happened to be loose on the street and they caught her. When we learned bout it a few minutes after, we immediately called up at the office my second daughter, Christine, and told her what happened. Brownie is her favorite outside our own pet dogs. And Brownie loved us -- that when she sees us even from a distance she would come running towards us with tail wildly wagging. We never saw her do this to her master. lols Christine cried but immediately told us to retrieve Brownie from the dog pound -- which we were planning to do anyhow. So we enlisted our friend veterinarian and asked him to take us there in his car cos he also knew where the dog pound was. He obliged. And to make a long story short --- we got Brownie back. If we took longer, Brownie would have been gone for good.

Back at the house, we discussed the matter cos we knew that it would happen again if we returned Brownie to her master. He was that type, you know. Christine came home and immediately went to our neighbor's house and without further ado asked him tho politely if he would give Brownie to us. Well, he did; maybe even felt relief doing it.

So we got Brownie into our home, fed her well, and she apparently enjoyed the love and care given her cos she gained weight. lols  But one day, we heard her coughing and saw her suddenly weak. So my eldest daughter Amy decided to take her to the vet. She stayed there for treatment and observation. But after a day.... she died. The vet told us that she was beyond treatment. It was apparent that because she was let loose out on the streets so often, she picked/ate up things that she shouldn't... accumulated inside her body and these hurt her in the end.

This left us devastated. We then asked the vet to bring the body home to us and then we took her back to her first owner and asked him to bury her in his yard. He did.

That ends the saga of Brownie. Sweet Brownie. Smiley

Re: LOOKING BUT NOT SEEING - HEARING BUT NOT LISTENING
Oh Dear Ellen, I just now have read the story that you have written about Brownie. How long was she able to stay with you? (At least, however long it was, she experienced "Real Love!"

When I lived "Inland" from the coast, there were many people like that neighbor of yours! Callous and often quite "Mean and Negligent" of their Animals!" (I pray that they will get "ALL" that they deservein the next life!

When I moved to the coast, where I am now, it is almost a "Dream come true!" People here are "Loving and Protective" of their pets!" There is always an "exception" now and then... and one of the exceptions just moved on the same street where I live! She lets her tiny puppy run out onto the street whenever she goes to her garage. She keeps the pup with her in her condo thank God, but everytime she goes to her garage, she lets the little one follow her unsupervised! The pup always runs in the street! There are cars going by, there are coyotes, there is water contaminated with pesticides running in the street, and so I told her, not once but several times, to keep her pup on a long leash, so that it can run, and still be safe... and far easier to pick up quickly, in case of a coyote! Anyway, with these kind of people, it is like "Talking to a wall!" We finally wrote her a long letter! Told her that we would find the pup a "Protective and Loving Home, if she did not care enough about it! Still, it was a very polite letter, just explaining that her tiny puppy needs the same perameters that she sets for her children!

She seems to be hiding from us now. We have not seen her, or the pup for two weeks? We are keeping our fingers crossed at this very moment, that the letter made her wake up!

I do believe in an afterlife! And I believe that you will meet Brownies spirit there... and he will again come running to you, Bright eyed and Bushytailed, in "Perfect Health!" You will pick her up, and hold her close, never having to part again!

Re: LOOKING BUT NOT SEEING - HEARING BUT NOT LISTENING
Brownie stayed with us for about 3 months.... precious months. We still miss her. But you're right she's happier where she is now. Smiley

Gee, I hope the lady learned her lesson (thanks to your letter) and is so ashamed by her irresponsible behavior with her pup that she's probably hiding from you. Feeling guilt, perhaps. I still think tho that she doesn't deserve to have the little one.

Re: LOOKING BUT NOT SEEING - HEARING BUT NOT LISTENING
Well we did bunk into each other yesterday as I was headed for my mail box... I said hello first, and to my astonishment, she said hello back to me in a nice tone, but "Best Of All" she has stopped allowing the pup to run around in the street! I am "Praying" that this continues... that she just needed to be "Really AWAKENED to all of the dangers, and how "she would feel, if the pup got run over, grabbed by a coyote, or poisoned by the pesticides running in the street water along the curbs! The letter, that I addressed to her, as "For Mommie" (written on the envelope, and taped to her door,) might just have convinced her, whereas, just talking to her didn't! I told her that "she would never be able to forgive herself if anything happened to her dog, (like being run over by a car!) Also that by setting a good example for her little children, she would be raising "Kind and Caring" Human Beings... and that this teaching would be passed on to her grandchildren... and all "Thanks to her EXAMPLE!" Anyway, please say a PRAYER that she will CONTINUE to remain a PROPER GUARDIAN!! LOL!

Re: LOOKING BUT NOT SEEING - HEARING BUT NOT LISTENING
Oh I think she's finally learned her lesson. The changes point to it. But if she backslide one day.....   well, you'll be there I know. Smiley
