I am pleased to report I did NOTHING last night that I should have done (IE, making more of a dent in a report I am writing about all the academic testing I've been doing on him), and instead watched the baseball game from a little after 8 until just before midnight.

Happy little camper right now; both that I was so careless with my responsibilities (working from 7 - 7:30 or 8 or 8:30 five days a week, I do that A LOT), and also... the results.

Not that we won the game; that the season was justified.  These men put their hearts and souls into each game this season. They worked hard to function as a team, not individual guys who happen to show up to work each day in the same outfit - even A-ROD, one of the game's biggest showboats has learned this year 'what's good for my team is good for me' and toned his ego down a few million degrees (I mean, I was actually almost CHEERING for him this season!).  They learned how to have FUN together, and it was obvious that this season was special.  It just ended on a high note, but even if we lost last night and tonight, I would still be so proud of all they accomplished this year.  Together.

My favorite part of the night, however, was when they showed the reaction shots of different people on the field when the final out was made.  Pidge who made the final catch, Mo on the mound, Jeter behind him, etc.  Everyone primal and excited.
Then they finally showed me Girardi's face, watching the ball get hit, passed between his players, and the out recorded.  Seeing Joe... I broke down.  He has been my hero since I was 11 years old and I first started following him as a player.  He's taken so much heat being the manager, especially because of last year; he's been second-guessed about EVERYTHING, but he's remained the calm and respectful Joseph Elliot Girardi I have loved for so long.  I am so happy he gets his moment.

Hey; only about 101 days until Pitchers & Catchers Report : )

Re: Right Through the VERY Heart of it ...
Everyone hated him for only giving his pitchers three days rest.

1. What other choice did he have?
2. Sabathia has a 160 million dollar contract. He better play on 3 days rest.
3. They have Mariano Rivera.
and
4. It won them the World Series.

Joe Girardi is a genius. I can't wait to catch PTI tonight. Wilbon gave him crap for pitching schedule. I was hoping ARod was gonna have that grand slam, but he'll probably get that "non-clutch in the playoffs" dig again, even with the winning double in game 3.

Re: Right Through the VERY Heart of it ...
What's PTI?  Sounds like something I should know.

Joe Girardi has been my hero since I was 11 years old (1996) and he first came to the team.  This was BEFORE the World Series.  Then he hit that triple and....damn.  Just damn.  He took his rightful place as 'first in my heart'.  He is amazing.
He took the Marlins so far the year he was their manager, and caught a LOT of flack last year which carried over to this year, but he never wavered and...I hope people just learn to trust him.  He knowwwwwwwwwws this game; like Joe Torre, like the legends of the game.  He is good at it; this championship is proof of that.  But I mean... the entire fucking team adores him!  All of them, even at their worst, had the highest praise for Joe, his decisions, and his leadership.

Ugh, I just love him.  He is an all-around good baseballer, and also, good person.  Did you see what he did IMMEDIATELY after leading his team to victory in the World Series on Wednesday night?

Pardon the Interuption on ESPN.

I am always hopeful for the Marlins, they always have the smallest payroll but always seem to do pretty well. Yeah, I saw that he helped some lady on the highway. It's what people should do, and he's not a hero or anything, but he's really cool. You don't expect people to do things like that anymore. Made me happy.

Re: Right Through the VERY Heart of it ...
But see to me, Girardi IS a hero.

The Marlins took center (well, not CENTER-center) stage for me when Joe went down to them, but I didn't follow them nearly as closely this season as years past.  I do like the underdog, despite my favorite team's reputation.

Eek! Sorry, meant to stop by sooner.

Congratulations! You must be thrilled. Wish the Phils would have put up more of a fight, if only because it makes for better baseball.

I smiled to see your last comment about 101 days. It warms my heart.

I lost track of the countdown

Many thanks for the Congrats!  I don't know...winning 4 games to 2 is exciting; winning 4-zip would have disappointed me because ... it's the WORLD SERIES.  It's not supposed to be a walk-off.  It's supposed to MEAN something because the TWO BEST teams in ALL OF BASEBALL are taking the stage.  I'm ALMOST glad that we lost game 5, because it came back HOME, which was an amazing win.

Re: Right Through the VERY Heart of it ...
PS... IT WAS AN AMAZING WIN!

(I know, I just wrote that, but that whole game... I couldn't sit, my heart was racing, I was actually telling pitchers through my tv screen to 'breathe; you can do this...you'll get it back'.  I went to bed shortly after the last out EXHAUSTED because I know the game and know it is NOT over until that last out is recorded.  My roommate tortured me with the fact that I was freaking out, but I felt justified).

I was up watching that exact same game. I have to admit I was pulling for the Phils, but the games in this series were played very well. I'm content with just being able to watch my favorite sport. I'm glad you got to enjoy yourself. :]

Re: Right Through the VERY Heart of it ...
It's okay to root for the Phillies.  Clearly, they were a good team this year because they were able to make it to the World Series.

I am, of course, quite happy with the way things turned out.  I love my team win or lose (as I wrote in a recent journal entry on here), but they all worked together AS A TEAM so hard this year, even A-Rod got over himself... they just... deserved it.  And I'm already dreaming of next season!
