Dear New Found Glory,

Why are you so against me getting to actually see you in concert?  I am a very nice girl, and I shower pretty regularly (that's once a day in girl world).  I even do silly things like donate blood, give money to charity, and teach kids with severe special needs; a lot of people think things like I just listed are examples of good karma.

And  yet... and yet, I still have not seen you in concert since I was about a freshman or sophomore in high school (age 15 max...I'm now 24).  I wasn't even a fan of yours back then; I knew a few songs, but I saw you guys play because you were opening for other bands (hell, I spent most of one of the shows just wishing Ian would put a friggin' shirt on!) I actually wanted to see.  I've only  really been listening to your music since about October of 2007.  I think I've made up for lost time in the fan department, because I've let you guys creep up into my top 5 these last 2  years, but I still haven't gotten to see you play your music.

There was that botched show last September, where I had to leave at 10 to make the last train home at 12:30 (I FUCKING HATE NEW JERSEY STILL, BTW), and when I was still standing there at 10:15, my friend pissed at me because she swore we'd miss the train (we didn't), you still hadn't taken the stage.  Not even one damn note.  I got to see ISHC, and you picked great opening acts, but...too numerous.

And you KICKED ASS at the Bamboozle, where you played Green Day proud, but of course, I couldn't go on Saturday when you were playing yourselves.

And now, you're going on tour with Dashboard, DASHBOARD, another act I've been waiting to see since I was 14...and every damn show that in theory I could get to... I can't get to.  Why aren't any of the shows that I could conceivably drive to (or hell, I'd fly to Chicago or someplace else I wanna go anyway) on Saturday nights?  Or even shows more local to me on Friday nights?  I realize I'm probably gonna have to go alone because I don't know anyone here.  Fine.  I'll be that girl.

....but give me a chance to fucking GO.

      Incredibly Frustrated,
             Emily

I know, I know;

life's been pretty crazy lately.  I don't have internet at my new apartment yet (it's coming soon), so the only place I can log-on usually is at work.  And as you can imagine, that's not exactly encouraged because I'm supposed to be at work .... working, thinking of the children, being professional, etc.

I'm at my parents house typing this, but otherwise... gonna be another gap.

How are you??

Re: Annoyed
Yeah... I remember you talking about it... But it doesn't mean people on mindsay don't miss you.

Awww.

I'm good. Everything's been really busy.

Oh wow;  I thought you guys were an hour apart, max.

*How the heck did you meet, then?  Like...a camp romance!?!?  That was my dream when I was younger.

Re: Annoyed
Nope... its a while away.

Nope.. nothing quite that romantic. We met on mindsay.

Re: Annoyed
Aw; cyberspace romance!  At this point, I'd like ANY type of romance

It's funny I'm replying to this thread today, because last night I went to a concert to see the band I 'wrote it' to.

And they were sooooooooooooooooooooooo goooooooooooooooooood.

Who'd you go see?

Re: Annoyed
New Found Glory.

As I wrote in the entry, like a month ago, I have been waiting to see them FOREVER.  I mean, I saw them when I was in high school, 2 or 3 times, but it was always because they were opening for bands I really wanted to see, ala Blink-182 or Green Day.  I knew a few songs by them, and when they were on stage, had fun watching them, but I wouldn't say 'fan'.

Then about 2 years ago, I was in my dorm room and I was like, 'know who I wanna listen to right now?  NFG', so I put on the 10 - 15 songs I owned, and my roommate and I had fun rocking out.  Then I was like, 'I wonder if they're still together/still play/touring' and I looked, and they WERE.  They were actually playing in NYC that night, but I had plans and couldn't go.  Sad, so I decided to just listen to the music again.

And then realized... I really like them.  Get a lot of energy from them, go to the gym with them, etc.  Started buying CDs, etc etc.

So then I REALLY wanted to see them live.  I got tickets last Sept. to do so, but deep in NJ, and we had to leave before they got on stage... not even a note .  Then I saw them in May at this thing called the Bamboozle, which was a concert where bands covered other bands' music, so though it was their bodies and voices and instrumentation, they were playing Green Day songs, not their own.  And I'm not complaining, because they kicked ASS at it, but they were playing the tour the next day as themselves...but of course, I couldn't be there.

But Sunday, it happened.  Had to drive 2 hours each way for the privilege, but it was beyond excellent.  I'm not home right now, but I'll try to post pictures soon.

Re: Annoyed
I'm so very glad, too!

I'm also realizing that life works itself out in weird ways.  I didn't know it at the time, but not planning to go see them again later this year was actually a good thing.

They were going to be playing with Dashboard Confessional a few times, and I've never seen Dashboard live, and I <3 NFG, so I was like 'oh, I wanna see that tour, also!'.  Except I live in bumblefuck, and they're not playing here.  I was going to go down to NY and miss a day of work, but wasn't really excited about that.  And then I was going to fly the day after Thanksgiving to see them play ... in Florida.  This was my dream, so I could be WARM in November AND see 2 great bands.  I really wanted to do this.

I found out today that Dashboard had to drop out of the tour.  So Thank G-d I didn't buy those tickets, ey?

I deeeeeeeeeeeefinitely wish that other tour was still happening, but I'll take my memories : )

Re: Annoyed
I did indeed; and it was SO worth being tired the next morning : )

Re: Annoyed
why were you so tired?

Re: Annoyed
I had to drive 2 hours in each direction to get to see them.  So the show ended around 11, and I of course didn't leave EXACTLY when the last note was played, so I didn't get back to my apartment until almost 1, and then even though I immediately put on PJs and got into my bed, I needed to decompress being so happy getting to see them (concerts in general get me amped), so it was probably about 2 when I fell asleep.

And I got up at 6:04, regular time, and then had to go on a 4-day trip with a student of mine.  So sleeping less than usual was NOT smart.

Re: Annoyed
Jeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeesus.

I was just elated yesterday, because they're playing a Sunday show in New Haven, and that's about an hour's drive from me; doable, even though I might be zonked at work on Monday.

THENN I was like 'wait...didn't I just sign up for a PD day that Monday!?! Like, I could kinda take the day off and be leisurely and not with students on Oct. 19 to recover?!! EXCELLENT!"

PD day is Tuesday, the 20th.... so Monday I WOULD be exhausted.  But I'm still willing to do it

ALSO debating flying to Florida the day after T-Giv with a friend from South Carolina to see them.  Just because I will need a break from the cold, a chance to see her, and oh yeah ... music.
