Every once in a while I like to review movies I watch while being in a state of "fictional intoxication". So far I have reviewed Minority Report , What Women Want , The Phantom of the Opera , Pulp Fiction ...

Now... I was having a perfectly good day: hanging out with friends, playing pool and ping pong, listening to music, cooking and eating...when the "gods of improbable movies" commanded me to go see STREET KINGS...starring Keanu Reeves...DEAR ME... I grabbed a non-alcoholic beer, and sat in the movie theater. This is what I recall:

Keanu Reeves wakes up, brushes his teeth with a gun, and pukes copiously as a result of it. After finding a badge on the nightstand, our hero remembers he is a cop, and gets ready to go to work. While driving down a busy L.A. street, he realizes he's got a very bad breath and decides to fix the inconvenience by downing a couple of airplane-bottles of vodka. Then he pulls over in front of a drug store and starts a highly refined conversation with two Korean guys. The debate gets heated when the Koreans claim that the third declension in Latin doesn't have a special neuter ending. Keanu Reeves gets mad, but the two Asian thugs take him down and hit his crotch with a dictionary. Our hero wants REVENGE, and after stealing some vodka from a store, goes on a rampage to exterminate the whole Korean community in California. He is quite successful, but his boss reprimands him for killing a man defecating in his own bathroom. "You do not shoot a man taking a dump...It's like killing someone in church" (The "SAD" thing is that I am not making this up!). Anyhow, as the Koreans lie down dead, our hero steals all the alcohol they had in storage. The plot gets very complicated when Keanu Reeves finds out that all the cops in L.A. kill innocent citizens to drink their booze, and bribe the authorities to cover up the mess. After killing two tattooed gangsta-like people that later on turned out to be archbishops, Keanu finally kills the mastermind of the evil plan...and lives happily everafter.

It took me a while to get over the idea I actually sat there (I got in for free) and saw the whole movie. I took comfort in reading the COMICS I used to read when I was a little child. Click on the link and see how cool it is to actually turn the pages..it is like having a comic book in your hands. Maybe it's just the fact that I am a geeky bookworm...but I enjoy this "turning the virtual pages thingy" so much that I did some "research", and found this AMAZING TREASURE . If you find similar websites...PLEASE LET ME KNOW!!!

Oh my...I guess some movies are best viewed in a state of actual intoxication.

How much longer are you there? (Thinking of your mom, stockpiling cases of wine and crossing off the days on the calendar.)

Re: Wine-Soaked Movies: Street Kings!
Yes. Indeed....not even a Pangalactic Gargleblaster could make me enjoy that movie...gah...I don't even want to hear the name Keanu Reeves again...EWWW

I'll be here for another month. I'll get back to Naples on July 9. Everything has been already arranged (even details) for my homecoming; I think I'll have one of the best dinners ever!

My mom said she's added six cases to those you saw in the pic...NOT BAD...not bad at all....

Have you tried some Primitivo yet??

PS. My brother emailed this morning and said my mom has started baking stuff for me....but got excited and used salt instead of sugar....poor mom...

No! Haven't tried Primitivo yet but I did write a note to myself that I keep looking at every day.

Ouch...my "Nazi browser" won't let me play "the game that never ends" Something tells me this game is AWESOME! Have you seen "Bookworm"? It's an electronic version of the game we play at home....when I usually shout, "DRAW ONE!!!". I enjoy the game...when I play I think just a couple of things are missing...MY FRIENDS and some BARBERA DEL SANNIO..

Re: Wine-Soaked Movies: Street Kings!
I only recently even heard of this movie and was interested solely because Hugh Laurie is in it -- and let's just say I have an unnatural attachment to HL.  The summary looked like crap, so I guess I won't even Netflix this one and just wait to catch it on TNT or something.  Thanks for the interesting review.

Re: Wine-Soaked Movies: Street Kings!
Oh yeah... Hugh Laurie had a strange role. He was an important character, but you don't get to see him much. I had a conversation about Hugh Laurie with my co-workers over lunch yesterday; the thing is that EVERYBODY loves House MD...but I don't. The reason why I don't enjoy watching the show is that Dr. House is too RUDE, and I really dislike rude people. My co-workers said that that's exactly the point: House is rude because other doctors just won't listen, and one has to be rude if people's lives are at stake. That's why House rocks.

They might be right....but I still believe he is obnoxious. Sorry for criticizing your hero

Re: Wine-Soaked Movies: Street Kings!
Actually I disagree with your co-workers. He's rude even when they listen. He's rude to the patients whose lives are at stake. I think he's awful simply because it amuses him. He's a sh!t regardless of the situation. Funny, I don't like rude people either but House is sooooo over the top, it's almost like it makes it okay. In real life, he'd be murdered.

All right, now I'm gonna have Hugh on the brain all day! *Sigh*

Re: Wine-Soaked Movies: Street Kings!
Wow... House is sooooo over the top, it's almost like it makes it okay!! You got me interested now. I think I'll go rent the House DVDs later today. I am currently on a military base in the middle of the desert, so you can easily imagine that I am watching TONS of DVDs. I watched "The 4400" last night, I have "Curb Your Enthusiasm" for tonight...and...it must be...HOUSE MD for tomorrow. If I get on the "House bandwagon" it will be your fault

Re: Wine-Soaked Movies: Street Kings!
Oh, while you're DVD-ing it up, get the Battlestar Galactica series starting with the mini-series.   Smiley

Hey, take care over there.

Re: Wine-Soaked Movies: Street Kings!
Thanks for the tip! I looked it up and saw it is a show from the 70s...the GOLDEN AGE of TV shows (in my opinion). I LOVE "Sanford & Son", "The Jeffersons", "Good Times"...and the like...

I am trying to take good care of myself...I just wish we had yummy cookies....like those you showed on your blog!! Smiley

...That's fine, though. I'll be back home in a month!!!

Re: Wine-Soaked Movies: Street Kings!
You want the new, current Battlestar Galactica series -- the old one was good and campy, this new one is awesome, addictive.  Hot guys and hot gals in space.  Come to think of it, in your present situation it's more timely.

Glad you're coming home soon.  Smiley

Re: Wine-Soaked Movies: Street Kings!
I didn't even realize Hugh Laurie was in this movie...I love him, though he's always Bertie Wooster to me and not House.

Re: Wine-Soaked Movies: Street Kings!
Ahhh....that's why I thought that he looked familiar....even though Bertie is sooooo much more likable than House...but that's plain obvious...

Re: Wine-Soaked Movies: Street Kings!
It's so amazing that Hugh Laurie does that American accent for House...we don't watch it on a regular basis (not really into medical shows), just catch it now and then if we happen to come across it. Robert made me laugh by asking "Does House actually do any work at the hospital or does he just walk around?"

Re: Wine-Soaked Movies: Street Kings!
I still have a ton of my old comics books. My favorites showcased multiple sides of my personality gravitating from the classic Uncle Scrooge and Donald Duck slices of American imagination to the much more somber but no less entertaining X-Men. Makes me think I should pull a few gems from my collection and reminisce.

Re: Wine-Soaked Movies: Street Kings!
Same here...I have ALL of my comic books...and Uncle Scrooge is my favorite character "hands down"!!! Something tells me that our "nests" look very much alike!

I think that when I got back to Italy, I'll just  pull a few gems from my collection and reminisce!!

...and I ant to read "The Hobbit" , OF COURSE! I can't believe I am 33, and I haven't read it yet...

Ti chiamo presto! Stammi bene!!

Ale' ale' ale' ale'...POCHO, POCHO!!!!
