I got to spend the past few days at the LBJ Wildflower Center ( http://www.wildflower.org/ ) in Austin, Texas for a conference dealing with the situation of invasive exotic plants for the State of Texas. ( http://www.texasinvasives.org/conference/conference.html )  Our compant was one of the sponsers of the event, so I went to set up a display for the company and to attend the lectures, in order to stay on the cutting edge of information when it comes to dealing with invasive plants and meet more of the people that are involved in the cause.

There was a great turn out of people and it was quite a bit of fun.  I got the chance to see many old friends and to meet numerous interesting people.  All of which are involved in the fight to protect our natural hertiage in various ways.  And, as always, the Wildflower Center is a neat place to hang out.

there is this thing called a pincushion plant ei.

Do you know anything on how to care for it?

That looks like a Diapensia spp of some kind.   It is a native sub alpine plant that is native to the New England area of the US.  It grows in rocky crevices, where there is moist soil.  You can plant it this spring in your yard and then pretty much leave it alone.  If you want to keep in a pot, like in the picture, just put it in a sunny area and be sure to water it enough so that the soil doesn't dry out.  You can also keep it inside in a very sunny window, just be sure to mist it with water a couple of times a weeks to increase the humidiy and to keep the soil moist.  It has cute little white flowers and will produce the small orange berries every year around Halloween.

No problem at all, just don't let your sister eat the berries.  Great for birds, but no good for peoples.

I'll tell her that. I'm sure she'll be fine though. Usually she doesn't stick random berries into her mouth unless they're rasberries, blackberries, strawberries, or blueberries from our garden.

I think I recognize some of the pix in your beautiful display, or at least items like the tractor.  Samples of your work, perhaps.  I'm going link-hopping now but I'm happy you had a good event.  People with passion are a formidable force, aren't they?

  Would it surprise you overmuch to know that I carry a paper with pi to 1,000 places around with me and once had it memorized to 100 places?  No good for more than 50-60 nowadays.  *plucks another grey feather out of her crest and tosses it into the breeze*  Yep, I had high hopes long ago to reach 1,000 but now I just want back what I used to have then.  That's sorta like what you do on the job, yes?
