What is this? I'm trying to learn all my plants and only have about a million to go....

And I finally figured out what you meant about the sage and the sweetgrass and all... what did you want me to send you? And what was the 4th direction? Cedar west, sage south, east?, and sweetgrass north....

That is Schizachyrium scoparium or better know as Little Bluestem.  I'm still trying to figure out which smudging plant is associated with the east, but I think that was traditionally either tobacco or more likely mint.  This winter some of the eastern tribes are making a pilgrimage down to the medicine gardens, perhaps they will bring the answer with them.
