Yesterday I was riding a bus to my apartment and every seat was full. We stop and this guy gets on who has one of those walking casts on his leg.

He stands at the front of the bus, looks around for a seat, walks a few steps forward, looks around for a seat, and then tries to stable himself with this giant cast.

I was sitting by the window and a large woman was next to me on the aisle side so I was sort of stuck. There was at least a half a dozen able men sitting on the aisle side in the bus.

NONE of them stood up to give this guy with the broken foot a seat. They just stared forward like he was even there. Finally the bus driver says, "Isn't anyone going to offer this young man a seat?" and all of the guys on the aisle (and women) continue to just stare blankly and don't move. So finally the larger woman next to me (who should also have a seat more than half the people on the bus) gets up to let him sit.

At this point, a man climbs over the person on the aisle to let the woman have a seat. So now there's a cluster of people trying to sit/stand/etc.

This really irritated me. Why are people so selfish? I just wanted to turn to the people on the aisle and be like, "STAND UP YOU SELFISH JERKS!"

I dunno, just felt like sharing.

Show some common courtesy, people.

That is rather shocking! This "guy" might have been "fighting for these jerks in Irac" and was sent home to heal!

Re: Selfish People
I have a theory:

Guys are weird -- in that they won't ask for or receive help from strangers.  Whether it's because one will think that the other is in a power position, is hitting on the other, is making unnecessary eye contact, etc.  Apparently, men feel better about giving up their seats to women -- with whom they don't feel weird about being the champion -- than men.  It's a whole guy/guy interaction thing

I said it was a theory -- not a smart theory which makes sense.

OK Am I missing something? Like why you didn't give him your seat?

Re: Selfish People
Looking in retrospect I probably should have, but in general it just makes more sense for the people on the aisle near the front to offer their seat so there isn't 3 people moving around and people climbing over each other, etc. I was near the back, by the window, and wedged next to a woman that I wouldn't have been able to climb over. So she would have had to have gotten up to let me out, then he would have had to hobbled back to the back, then all 3 of us would have had to get situated again. Then you have the issue of the only thing you can hang on to being on the ceiling and I can't really reach that far. That seems a wee bit ridiculous to me when there's half a dozen tall people sitting near the front on the aisle.

Would I do so could I go back in time? Well sure. But I think it's ridiculous that the situation even reached a point where that was a viable option.
