So I saw King Kong last night, and Peter Jackson has pulled it off again. What an epic motion picture! If it wasn't for the computer effects in the movie I would say you were watching a movie from the golden age. The scenery alone is worth the price of admission. Watching the way he painstakingly created 1930's New York again is amazing. The only complaint I have is some parts did get drawn out too much. Like when you find out the name of the Island they are searching for. It is called Skull Island, so when he types it onto his typewriter, they put it in slow motion. So you can see each letter he types out as if for some reason the name Skull Island is so dramatic. Other than that the movie is perfect. The first movie about a large ape that almost brought me to tears. There is such emotion in the characters and you actually feel for them. Plus, the battle sequences were top notch. They put Jurassic Park to shame. He battles not one, but three T-Rexes. Amazing stuff indeed. Of course, I also spotted one of I am sure numerous references to the original. There was a scene where Jack Black is listing off actresses to possibly be in his movie. He mentions an actress named Fay, and his assistant says, "she is doing that movie for RKO." Then Jack Black replies, "Damn you, Cooper!" For those who don't know, the star of the original Kong was Fay Ray which was made by RKO pictures. The movie was written by Merian. C. Cooper. I didn't catch any of the other references, besides the T-Rex's claws had three fingers on them. Real T-Rex's hands had two, but Ray Harryhausen who did the effects for the original gave them three. So Jackson in an homage to Ray put them in here as well.
