My September 11th post

I commented this topic to a post made by ceara but thought I'd touch on it here too as my post for the day. It's basically all I feel I need to say. That and perhaps "I'm sorry" for being so... heartless.

(It's not September 11th here yet, but I won't have time to post tomorrow, so yeah...)

I was watching the news yesterday and they were talking about a memorial that will be held all this week for the victims of the 9-11 attacks. When the topic of 9-11 comes up my mind emediately goes to more political things. Sadly, the fact so many people lost their lives that day often escapes me. As I sat there in a bit of a tiff, the lady who is running the memorial came on camera and said, "We don't want this to be political. This is not about politics. People, all kinds of people, lost their lives that day. People died, and death does not need politics involved." With that, she put me in my place. I never looked at it that way. Don't ask how, I just didn't. It escaped me. I mean, I know people died, but every time I thought about it, that wasn't what I thought about in particular, not the innocent people who died, which I really feel like an ass about (and that's a major understatement).

Anyway, today I'll be doing my best to put all the other bullshit aside.

I'm not sure why that is so hard for me to grasp. I feel really guilty and bad about it, though, as I'm sure I should. *sigh*
