Butch!! I like this entry, but I am a little confused about what not being enough..? I got lost at that point =(
Humans loathe... it is such a shame.
Humans loathe... it is such a shame.
the current argument is that you and I cannot get married because marriage is between a man and a woman..
so then what exactly when will we get to legitimize our relationships?

I saw someone on Facebook write a reply to my gay friend that he "agrees with the Maine voters". There are so many things I want to say to this guy, but I do not know him since he is a friend-of-a-friend. Good heavens, I cannot believe people still think these things in this day & age
this is why we have checks and balances in our system..
if all issues were left to popular vote then;
AfAms would not be equal
Native Americans would have less than nothing
women would not be allowed to vote

Legislative movements are much more positively profound than their counterparts in the popular vote. For the past decade, I have lost faith in my fellow citizens. Big government is the way to go for reasons like checks & balances.
Don't lose faith in our fellow citizens. What was the percentage of people who voted in Maine? I think the movement could be bigger. It'll have to if we want to politicians to change something too. I have yet to meet a person who is anti-gay marriage. I know they're out there. And I'm pretty sure I have friends who are, they're just too cowardly to come out and say it. They know they're wrong. I've been trying to bait a couple through Facebook posts to no avail.
There are just people who either don't vote or aren't empathizing with the gay community. A lot of my friends are unmotivated because it's not effecting them. But we've got to convince people that it is the right thing to do. We need to stop the whole religious argument cause it's bullshit. Human rights and life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness are the arguments, not religion.

there is no more need to waste money on trying to convince people..
This will only be resolved the way it's been done for over 100 years now..

Thanks eddie. Just that, people who vote Bush in twice & now keep voting for these bans..? It is seriously discouraging. From a more philosophical standpoint, I tend to trust the form & principle of law rather than the people who will make & enforce it, but I always had a little place in my heart for philosophy anyway =) It helps me hate people more & more. ha!
I agree. The religious argument is completely bogus. The friend-of-a-friend I was mentioning earlier to darkseid mentioned how "The Equal Protection clause should pick up where religion leaves off" (copypasta, I swear!). Second WTF of the day to you lol -- why is religion even an issue with this thing!!

"I have yet to meet a person who is anti-gay marriage." Well, you need to get out more. Meet me. Along with, apparently, most people who vote. I'm sure we're all nothing more than unevolved cavemen, of course, who can't seem to get around to extending the sacred institution of marriage to any two warm bodies who "can't help who they love." What's wrong with us, anyhow?
Speaking of who we haven't met yet, I haven't met a single gay marriage advocate who can put forth a cogent argument why we should not also extend the same privilege to more than two people, or a group of people of both sexes, or to siblings, or to parents and adult children who can't live without each other, or any combo you can think of. C'mon, get creative. There's no reason we can't extend "civil rights" to anyone whose sexual attractions are different than ours, right?
Knock it off, already. Everyone knows that once you crack open the door to two guys marrying, a long line of others will form--and has formed, in some cases--to have the same thing applied to them. The very same rationale you use today to allow gay marriage will be used tomorrow to justify all the rest of it. It's not called civil rights, it's called chaos.
Like darkseid said earlier, if it were up to the people, then black people would still be drinking from different water fountains. You make me see it the way darkseid sees it.
I'm still waiting for your argument. You put forth a slippery slope which is no argument at all. That's like saying if we allow women to vote, then cats are gonna want to vote next! It totally ignores the fact that a single group of people want a single thing.

You're still waiting for what argument? I gave it to you. I'm waiting for yours on why groups and siblings should not also marry if they'd like. As for my "slippery slope", I guess you aren't reading the same news I am: Polygamy is practiced already in some places, and advocates say it works and should be allowed everywhere. About 99% disagree, but that doesn't deter.
Then there's NAMBLA, whose pedophile membership argues, apparently with a "straight" face (you'll excuse the expression), that "age of consent" laws should be overturned because they are being "discriminated" against and everyone is entitled to their own sexual preferences and rights.
Where have I heard that before?
You think the NAMBLA example is over the top and completely ridiculous? Let me disabuse you of that before you even try it: Ever heard of one Harry Hay? Late of LGBT fame and NAMBLA apologist? He was praised by Kevin Jennings, Obama's "safe schools" czar who is under so much fire now. Jennings himself has been exposed as someone who, upon learning of a potentially suicidal teen's sexual involvement with an adult, simply reminded the boy to be sure to use condoms. This is what you get when a society loses its moral bearings. The examples are legion, so don't tell me it's just a matter of "a single group of people [who] want a single thing." With enough "single things" piled on, we become ripe for ruin and don't have to worry about being destroyed from without because plenty from within will suffice.
You are a fool. If you are against gay marriage. Don't marry a man and mind your own business. Homosexuals that want to marry are human beings like everyone else. They are consenting adults, people who pay taxes, people who vote, people who own homes, people who own vehicles, people whom continue to contribute to society, people who go to church, etc.
Your argument is purely paranoia. NAMBLA will never succeed because children are not mature enough to make educated decisions on having a intimate relationship with an adult. If you watched the news you might have seen that a few months back, large Polygamy sect was over turned and many men arrested and put on trial for the rape and abuse of their 'wives'.
The things that you are pointing out are completely irrelevant. You are finding pointless excuses to put down something that has no real negative effect on the people it involves. If you are saying that letting two men or two women marry each other will have a negative effect on the morals of society, then you need your head checked. If they are not hurting anyone, if they have a loving and caring relationship. What is the problem? What the hell difference does it make? They aren't trying to convert anyone to gay, they aren't forcing anyone to watch them be together. All they want is the right to marry the people they love.

Oh hay again, Mr. Strawman, still comparing homosexuality to polygamy, pedophilia, incest, & bestiality? Like eddiec said, you carved yourself a mighty slippery argument there. Gonna leave it at that.
Most human beings can't just be satisfied, they always has to be more. One way or another, it's never enough. *Shaking head*
hugs you... one day i pray one day.... it will happen and you will find the hawtest man alive and get married and i will come be your photographer
