• I'm learning how to live without her.  I'm learning that I wouldn't want her back even if she wanted me.  I'm moving forward little by little, and it gets easier as each day goes by.  But this is still the hardest thing I've ever gone through.
  • I'm wanting a tattoo... I don't currently have any, and I'm just feeling the need.  I have no idea what I want a tattoo of, though.
  • I'm being pestered to run a 5K at the beginning of June.  I've been running a little bit lately, but no more than 2 miles.  I'm not sure I'm prepared to do 3.
  • It's raining, and while most people around me today are complaining about that fact, I love it.  I don't know why, but I've always loved rainy days.
  • I've been working for awhile on a website for my photography with the hope and idea of eventually selling prints from it.  I'm getting close to being able to try it out, and I'm suddenly questioning the quality of my photographs.  Are they really good enough to sell, or am I being foolish?

Yes and no.  In that order.

And I said it because I meant it.  I look forward to seeing you be successful at this.

Re: This and That
Thanks, I'm working on it.  To help me out, a new Canon 40D is on the way

By the way, I like the new avatar, but I'll miss Harrison Ford,  haha.

Re: This and That
I used to like you, but now I'm blinded by jealousy.    You'll have to let me know when it gets here, and I can't wait to see what you can do when you combine your talent with an even better piece of equipment.

I think I'll miss Harrison too, but I was just getting tired of the gray color.  I see enough of that when I look out the window; I needed something brighter.

Re: This and That
Dammit, I just found out there's some problem with my order, so it's not on the way yet.  What now?

Understandable, it is pretty dreary outside.

ToplessBlogger on
Re: This and That
Can they tell you when it will be coming, or is it an indefinite wait?  Do you have the option to cancel the order and get it from somewhere else?  And where did you order from?

I almost feel like I live in Seattle.  I don't remember the last time I've seen such a rainy spell.

Re: This and That
They couldn't process it because of "verification issues."  I'm guessing I screwed up inputting my credit card number or something.  I tried calling but left a message.  I got it from cameraaddict.com.  Awesome prices there.

Yeah, well, I like it, cuz I'm weird like that, so I can't complain.

ToplessBlogger on
Re: This and That
Have you ordered from them before?  I ordered my S3 off buydig.com after a recommendation and they were fantastic, but it looks like cameraaddict might even be a little cheaper.  I hope you can get it straightened out soon.

Oh, I don't really mind the rain.  I actually like it quite a bit.  I feel less bad about staying in with a movie and a bowl of popcorn this way, too.

Re: This and That
I haven't ordered from them before, but they were also recommended to me.  However, I'm a little disappointed.  "Verification issues" turned out to be an opportunity to try to sell me more stuff to go with the camera.  In a way, I guess it's alright, but I ended up dropping about another $500 on accessories.  But, I should have it by Friday.

I hear ya, which is exactly what I'm thinking for tonight... well, that and finally getting some stuff done around my place that needs to be done.  It's so much easier to clean when I don't want to be going outside.

Re: This and That
Just curious, was this recommendation based off firsthand experience?  Your comment about having to call them and then them trying to sell you more stuff triggered something with me - I've seen that complaint about other sites before when looking online.  Were these accessories you wanted, or things they said you needed?  I don't want to panic you, but I just Googled a few reviews of them:

Here
Here
Here

Obviously people are going to complain at a site called "complaints board" but the first link worries me the most.  Both tootboy and I ordered from buydig, loved them, and they have an 8.93 rating, while this other site has a 0.46?  I don't think I've ever seen a rating that low on a website before.

Like I said, I don't want to panic you.  But I also don't want to see them fuck you in the ass either.  I would hate to see something go wrong here and have you get stuck with something that isn't what they described with no way to return it.

I've actually been chatting with tootboy about this for about 20 minutes now and he's trying to call them on the phone.  He's getting busy signals, voicemails where he can't leave messages, etc.  Their customer service seems shady.  We're both concerned they're resellers selling grey-market or used products and that you're going to be stuck.  Obviously the decision to cancel or not is up to you, but I think you know where my opinion leans on this.

Toot also directed me to have you read this entry of his.

Re: This and That
awwwwww come on man, you can totally do a 5K =) Just giving you a hard time, but it is good to get some positive encouragement, eh?

Be careful with that tattoo thing. They are incredibly addicting. I want a million more!

And of course they are good enough to sell =) Your audience can vouch for that particular "that"

Re: This and That
Yeah, I probably can, but do I want to?   I suppose it would be good for me.

Yeah, I haven't decided anything for sure about that, and it won't be happening soon anyway.  There are too many other things to be spending money on.

Thank you, I appreciate it!

Re: This and That
I love rainy days as well.

Learning this is a good step in the right direction.
pick something that you wont regret in 10 years
try a gradual increase over the next few weeks
You are good enough. They are good enough. Just try. You will be happy that you made the effort and not live wondering how it would have turned out. I also worry about this, I've thought about doing what your doing but for me, I think I need to be more committed to photography first. If you want any help with the website I am game just so you know.

much respect,
miss j.

Re: This and That
Thanks, and I am going to try it out, I just question how successful it will be sometimes.  Either way, you're right, I figure it will be good to try.

Re: This and That
ah the curse of "not good enough" ... artists and their idea of perfection. your pictures are good enough to sell. just believe that, even when you don't think so.
darklight20 on
Re: This and That
That's what I'm trying to do.  Plus, I figure even if I don't succeed, at least I will have tried.
kingzjewel on
Re: This and That
that's right. you can't regret trying, you can only regret wishing that you did.

Re: This and That
Dude, I went to an art show in East Lansing Saturday, and it was pretty much all photographs.  I thought of your pictures, and thought again how that yours were significantly better than the ones at the festival, and they were selling for over $100.00 per pic.  You could've made a killing there.  I only bought one pic of the heart nebula however.  Outer space pics have always fascinated me.  Are you going into space anytime soon?
darklight20 on
Re: This and That
Thanks, that's nice to hear.  Do you remember the dimensions of the ones that were selling for over $100?  I'm still trying to figure out prices.  Haha, nope, no space for me.
shoeshineboy on
Re: This and That
Mine was 11x14, and it sold for $45.00.  Most I saw were, I believe 16x20/20x24, but some were huge, as were the $1500.00 price tags on them.  $150.00 was the most common price I saw.
darklight20 on
Re: This and That
Was that the size of the prints themselves?  Or prints with matting?  I'm looking at starting out with 8x12/8x10 matted to 16x20, so I'm just curious.
shoeshineboy on
Re: This and That
I forgot to mention that.  Yes, they were matted almost an inch per side.
