Great shot, must be on a tripod and slow shutter speed?  Do you have one of those sensors that trigger the shutter?.... someone told me once that is how they caught the lightning flashes.  I've never gotten ones this clear... nice job!

Thanks   Nope, no special sensor.  I've been wanting to photograph lightning forever and finally had some success last night.  It was on a tripod with a 5-second shutter speed.  I tried some at 10 and 20 seconds, too, but the lightning didn't show up as well.

b.  You don't get storms like this during the winter.  This is another reason why summer is better.

a.  I can see why.    I peeked at your site and saw your weekend photos.  Very nice.

b.  Disregarding the freezing factor of blizzards, they're just not as visually stimulating.  I mean, which do you hear more of: "oooh, check out that giant fast-moving flake" or "wow, did you see that bolt of lightning?" 

a.   Thanks, I was pleased with them.  It was killing me having to wait to see how the first shots with the new camera looked on a bigger screen!

 

b.   Well, you got me there... and I do love a good thunderstorm, but it still doesn't mean I want the heat   And I still love snow, too!

Yeah... but I never seem to have a camera with me when there's good lightning, and I've never been able to get a good pic of it.  Plus... I absolutely love thunderstorms, and haven't gotten to be in a good one in a long time.

If it makes you feel any better, I've been trying to photograph lightning for a long, long time, and this is the first time I've ever had any success. 

Nice shot!  I tried and tried on Sunday to get a good shot, but I failed.

It's not easy... I captured some lightning in a couple other shots, but nothing like this, and I also have a lot of pics of an empty purplish sky.
