Well, I'm back.  It was a good weekend, but a hell of a lot of driving.  I said last week that I'd try to get some pictures, so I'll post a few here.  These first few come from western Maryland and West Virginia.  Boring car ride + cool cloud formations + camera sitting right in the back seat = some pretty cool pics :)

We were about to drive under the dark stuff to the right.  Needless to say, it rained pretty hard.

Once we actually got through the storm, the clouds made for some good sunset pics.  They could be better, but I was in a car, so...

A little while before we ran into the clouds (and therefore, I unfortunately didn't have the camera out), we almost hit a bald eagle.  It took off from the side of the road, and looked like it was having a little trouble getting going.  If we hadn't slowed, it would have hit our windshield!  It was pretty cool to see.

Anyway, enough about this stuff, onto the wedding.  My cousin's wedding was really nice.  For those of you who are catholic, don't take any offense, but the wedding was very catholic.  The groom's family is catholic with a Mexican heritage.  They incorporated some Mexican traditions into the ceremony, which was cool since you don't see it everyday, but considering I'm methodist, a lot of it just seemed sort of... out of place? different?  I don't know what word I'm looking for.

The reception was really nice as well.  It was at the Grand Haven Golf Club.  Those of you from Michigan know how nice Grand Haven is.  It was a beautiful day, so a portion of the party was outside and the dinner and dancing were inside.  My uncle (the father of the bride) asked my dad and I to take pictures since they weren't having a photographer at the reception, so I took about 100 pics.  But, since most of them are of people, I'm only going to post a couple.  Here's one of the outdoor venue where a chocolate fountain was set up.

And, here's one of the cake.  It was rather small, but they only used it for the cutting.  None of it was served... I didn't quite get the point in that, but what the hell...

Unfortunately, due to how early my fiance and I had to get going yesterday, we left the reception fairly early.  It was a lot of fun!  Too bad we had to spend 12 hours in the car yesterday to get home... I almost called in sick today... :P

Yeah, I don't get the cake thing.  It looks so tasty.    Nice pics by the way.  That would be cool to see an Eagle that close up.  I've only seen them in the air.  Their pretty big.  A chocolate fountain sounds pretty cool.

They served cake, but not that one...?

Thanks, they may have been better if I hadn't been in a moving car...

I hadn't ever seen an eagle that close either.  I was wishing I had gotten the camera out sooner!

The chocolate fountain was really good.  They strawberries and little creme puffs that you could dip into it.  So good!

Re: Back in Maryland Again
That sounds awesome.  I need a chocolate fountain.

We're they planning on saving the cake?  I've heard people do that before.

An eagle pic would've been awesome!

Re: Back in Maryland Again
We could get a chocolate fountain for our wedding, but the place where we're having the reception already has a punch fountain, so that should be cool enough.

Maybe, but I don't think you usually save the whole cake, so I don't know what they were thinking.

Hell yeah!!!  I think I'm going to start riding in the car with my camera in my lap... then I'll be ready anytime i see something.

A punch fountain would be good too.

If/when I get married, I'd probably save a piece of cake.  Hell, I've saved a box of cereal for 3 years, why not have some cake to go with it some day, lol.

Yeah, you could get some amazing pics by doing that.

Re: Back in Maryland Again
Yeah, I haven't seen the punch fountain yet, but I'm guessing it'll be pretty sweet.

I guess the tradition is to save some of the cake, freeze it and then have it on your first anniversary... but you'd only need like one piece for that.

Yeah, but I'd get really tired of holding a camera for a whole 12 hour trip...

Holding the camera would get old.

Nice pictures and I'm glad you had a good time this weekend. What is it about Catholic weddings that are different to you? I'm curious.

Re: Back in Maryland Again
Thanks

Some of the prayers and gestures.  We don't cross ourselves.  At one point, the couple took a flower to present to the Virgin Mother, which is not something we would do.  Just different parts like that.

your boring car ride produced some cool photos too =)

"as always, nice photos" =)

Re: Back in Maryland Again
True... but I probably got all of them in about a half hour period... that still leaves a lot of boring car ride...

Thanks

12 hours in the car?!? ::dies:: I can barely last an hour... lol. Glad that you had so much fun!

One other question... how do you post pictures in your journal?

Re: Back in Maryland Again:: 12 hours in the car?!? ::dies
yeah, it's too long...

You need to upload them to an online photo gallery (I use photobucket.com).  From there, they give you a Tag to copy and paste into your entry.  Before you paste it, click on the <HTML> button.  Paste it, and the click the button again, and it will be in your entry.  Hope that made sense!

LOL  That so cracked me up.  And ya know, if/when I get married, I'm so going to Vegas.

Re: Back in Maryland Again
Glad I could provide a laugh

Seriously though, they served cake, but not that one...  so why have it exactly?

I'm going through that wedding planning stuff... and sometimes I definitely think it would have been nice to just elope...  but really, I do like the idea of celebrating with friends and family.  The planning part just blows.

Re: Back in Maryland Again
But see, you run off to Vegas, get married and honeymoon, and when you get back, invite everyone to a 'reception' party.  So much easier!

darklight20 on
Re: Back in Maryland Again
that probably would be easier... oh well, we're way too far into the planning process to stop now

I bet!  You're far stronger than I am.  lol

Re: Back in Maryland Again
well, maybe my fiance is... she's had to deal with more of it than I have

Re: Back in Maryland Again
The bride usually does, right?  Hence the reason I'm running off to Vegas.  =OP
