Nope. Just a black snake. Many people call them "black racers". At least I'm almost certain that's what it was. Since I'm not a snake expert, I don't get too close to any of them.
This summer I went to the San Diego zoo. In the reptile house they had a copperhead in one of the glass cases and next to it's name in description it had a red dot to indicate it was venomous. I told on of my cousins who is from California, "Heck, I've seen one of those in my yard." A man next to me said, "Yeah, me too." I asked him if he was from Texas and he said, "Yep. College Station."
The poisonous snakes in this area are rattlesnakes, copperheads, and cottonmouths, but I haven't seen any of those in quite awhile. Hope you don't see one in your yard anymore.

I'll admit, my heart skipped a couple of beats when I realised it was real and I had been standing there beside of it for at least 20 seconds.
What kind of snake was it? I mean, you mentioned it's a black snake - but do you think it was poisionous?
I am fairly certain that it was not poisonous, but I like to keep away from all snakes just in case.

We haven't been to Wichita.in a long time. When we go out west we usually travel I-40 all the way, or we take I-70 to Kansas City, then I-29 up to I-80 west.
