This Mindsay thing is pretty great. You never know who will be reading your blog. There is a famous DJ on XM Radio named Ray Knight. (NR Ray) He is currently running the new country station "US 17". It's country music hits from the 80's and 90's which is something we middle aged folks love. Right after the station went on the air we sent him an email requesting that he play lots of songs by our friends "The Confederate Railroad Band". He wrote us back saying he would indeed be playing songs by "The Railroad". Since then we have heard many "Railroad" songs on the channel so the other day we wrote him again. This is the exact comment that I "cut and pasted". {We heard "Jesus And Mama" a little while ago. That's a great song. Keep up the good work.} All of our emails have our website address in the signature at the bottom, and the website has a link to our blog here. This is what Mr. Knight wrote back. {Thanks guys!  BTW:  love your blog!} I'm pretty sure he read the one about George Jones. You might think it's corny, but we think it's pretty cool that this famous guy took the time to read our blog and send us a nice note about it.

Re: NR Ray
Ha, me too. It is hard to say who actually read these blogs annonomously. Maybe movie stars and other famous people are reading MindSay blogs just to see what people around the country are thinking and talking about. Smiley

Thanks. I hope I don't sound like I'm bragging too much, but I really enjoy posting the nice things that happen to us.

Re: NR Ray
Thanks. BTW I really do like that hook line for a song that you gave me but I am an extremly slow songwriter. I sure hope that I can eventually write a good song with it. I'm thinking in the style of Bob Dylan or maybe The Grateful Dead. If and when I finish it, I'll be sure to let you know.

That would be great.

Re: NR Ray
Hi Guys!  I just treated myself to a night off in Sparks when I saw Mark Chesnutt was playing.  I've never been what you would consider a big fan, but have always enjoyed the stuff of his that has made it to the radio during my infrequent country music phases (late 70's, mid 80's, early 90's).  I know you love his stuff as he is our generation and touts that his influences are your favorite, George Jones, and mine, Merle Haggard.

I haven't been to a small show in a long time (probably since that nightclub dinner I told you about) and the casino showroom was about 800 seats - packed!  He got a great repeat crowd from the night before and I'll tell you, his guys kicked ass - a seven man band, really impressed me - sounded just like I was listening to a CD.  The guys had a blast during and between songs and played hits, stuff off his last CD (last year) and couple off the one he will be recording next month in Nashville.  He also did a Waylon medley, 2 Haggards, and 2 Roger Millers.  I can't believe I caught myself belting out the Haggard tunes along with the rest of the audience ("Gin and Misery" especially - country, for me, goes with heartbreak, LOL!).  True Honky tonk, one of the newer tunes was "Beer, Bait, and Ammo".

I'll tell ya, he's got a new fan and I'll go out of my way to catch him again.  take care and drive safe!bb. (ps, I'll check out US 17, too.  I listened to a couple of the talk shows, but I've never been a fan of the amount of call-ins they take from drivers.  I just want the tunes, not some clown boasting he's been OTR for 4 weeks, logged 4300 miles in the last 8 days, and is headed home to momma, LOL!) Mark Chesnutt rocks doesn't he. Sounds like an awesome show. We saw him at "Tootsies" in Nashville a couple of years ago. People who say Country music is "only about your wife leaving and your dog dying", don't have a clue. We have performed "Beer, Bait, and Ammo" many times. It's a great song written by a popular Nashville singer, songwriter named Kevin Fowler. Sammy Kershaw had a hit with it a few years ago, and now it's on Mark's latest CD.  I'm not sure which version I like better. I'm glad to hear you had such a great time. If you took pictures, I hope you'll post some.

Re: NR Ray
you know, I thought of the camera when I left my room, but since I was in a casino, I figured it wouldn't be allowed.  I was wrong - they announced at the beginning of the show, no video, but photos were encouraged - I didn't think he'd hold the show 15 minutes to let me run back to my room!

Re: NR Ray
I enjoyed seeing those great mountain scenes that you posted better than pictures of Mark Chesnutt anyway. Uh....Tracy said she would rather see the pictures of  Mark. Smiley Just kidding. She thought the mountain scenes were great too.
