I find self-fulfilling prophecies hilarious!
I know. It's like they quit on the end of the world, letting us all down somehow. I guess they needed a break from the terrible signs.
I grew up in a "doomsday" cult of sorts. They've been preaching for the last 120+ years that Armageddon is "right around the corner!" Back in the 60's they told high school kids not to go to college, encouraged people to sell their homes, and women not to have children because they were sure the end was coming in 1975. When 1975 came and went it pissed off a right many people and the group lost close to half it's members.
Every generation has their cults who insist that their time is "special." They claim that all the signs point to their time. Chronocentricity is an interesting phenomenon.
Me? I'm not worried about the Apocalypse. According to my very sound Biblical calculations, it's at least a couple million years in the future.
