Just got back from seeing The Dark Knight.

It's incredible.  It really is incredible.  If you don't like this movie, you either don't like Batman, you don't like superheroes, you don't like action movies, or you just don't plain like movies.

Of course, everyone will be curious about Heath Ledger as the Joker.  Don't worry.  This is his crowning achievement as an actor.  The Dark Knight Joker is, simply put, the second best villain to have ever graced cinema history.  First place goes to, no surprises here, Darth Vader.  But now I'm really starting to show my geek.

Whoever wrote this movie needs about every award possible.  It's perfect.  Absolutely perfect.  The story isn't too convoluted.  I was worried about this because, essentially, there are two villains in the movie.  The Joker and
----------------------------------------SPOILER---------------------------------------------------------

Harvey Dent/Two-Face.

(highlight the text)

--------------------------------------------END SPOILER--------------------------------------

But they are villains for two VERY different reasons.  That's one of many details that just makes this film shine.

I can't get over the amount of action in the movie.  There's hardly any "wait time."  They balance everything so well.  There's plenty of story to go around for those like me, who thrive on great plot-lines and character development.  But the action.  If you're a die-hard fan of movies like XXX or The Fast and The Furious, you'll find plenty to enjoy.

But really, the focal point of the movie is the Joker.  He drives everything.  It's just like one of his lines in the movie.  "By nightfall, I will control this city."  There's a constant fight over control throughout the movie.  Batman vs. The Joker.  But throw in Harvey Dent, the new DA who thrives on bringing crime to its knees and you suddenly have an interesting blend.  The line between hero and citizen is blurred.

And that's what this entire movie is about.  This is the message of the movie.

You no longer need a mask in order to be a hero.

There is this one point in the movie where the dependability of human nature comes into play... I won't spoil it for those who haven't seen the movie yet... but it really is an incredible moment.

This movie deserves 5 stars out of 5, 10 points out of 10, two-thumbs up, 100% fresh, whatever it is that you can throw at it that says "Amazing."  GO SEE THIS MOVIE.  And not a DVD from Netflix.  THEATERS.

Unless, of course, you hate movies, right?

I just got back a little bit ago.

I seriously sat there staring at the screen with my mouth open because I was just so AMAZED by everything.

It was AMAZING.

I can't even form words about it.

Re: The Dark Knight
I will literally murder anyone who badmouths Heath Ledger from this point on.

All I could say walking out the theater is "ridiculous."

I don't think I've ever written a more perfect review of a movie in my life... this movie was SUCH an incredible blend of.... fucking EVERYTHING.

Re: The Dark Knight
I was telling my friend Mikey that Heath Ledger wasn't even an actor in this film. He WAS the Joker.

EVERYTHING WAS SO FLAWLESS.

I am definitely going to go see it again.

Re: The Dark Knight
I wish I could sit in an empty theater and watch the movie again... there were too many points where The Joker did something or said something incredibly sadistically twisted and people laughed... there were definitely laughable points in the movie stemming from him... but too many laughs in the wrong places.  Like the ending of There Will Be Blood.  Not supposed to be funny.

I will probably have seen this movie 3 or 4 times by the end of this weekend.  This is literally breaching my Top 5 movies of all time.

No, seriously, I've been waiting to see this since the end credits of "Begins", and it's going down tonight, sucker.

Re: The Dark Knight
That wasn't really much of a spoiler though.  If you know the comic.  It's not a spoiler.  I haven't ever picked up a Batman comic book and I saw that one coming (but I'm a nerd, so I'm probably the exception and not the rule).

I just wonder who, if anyone, will play Joker in the next movie because Ledger did such a good job of bringing out the crazy of him.

Re: The Dark Knight
If they're smart, he won't be in the next movie.

Re: The Dark Knight
Yeah...I just can't imagine who would be able to do such a fantastic job of Joker.  The psychotic nature of that character was just fantastic!

I do agree with you that this is a great movie.

Re: The Dark Knight
Also, Nolan isn't necessarily following any sort of story from some of the comics.  So I made the name a spoiler for a reason.  Most people will not have read the comic books and wouldn't put two and two together given just the real name.  For the rest that know about the character, why spoil a fantastic surprise for them?

I refuse to let anyone in on details.  You'll get so much more out of the movie without prior knowledge.

Re: The Dark Knight
Well it was a certain object that said character possesses that made it pretty obvious to me, I didn't know by the name.  I've never read the comic book, but I was brought up around all guys and most of them read comic books.  I guess you may as well let people be surprised.

I've only really talked about the movie with others that saw it.  And I've wanted to spoil the surprise for other people, but I haven't.

Re: The Dark Knight
Yea, please don't!  One of my biggest pet peeves is when people spoil a movie or something else for me when I haven't asked them to.

You have no idea how terrified I was that I would find out the ending to the 7th Harry Potter book.  I avoided TV and internet for about a week until I got my copy of the book.

Re: The Dark Knight
I still haven't read the seventh Harry Potter book and I still haven't found out what happens (thankfully! most of my family was reading the last book around the same time I had to leave the room when they were talking about it).  I guess I should borrow the last few books from someone and get to reading!

Re: The Dark Knight
I just started rereading the sixth and will eventually reread the seventh.  They're such good books.

Re: The Dark Knight
I think I'm just gonna reread five and six the read seven.  I'll have to ask my aunt if I can borrow them.  They are really good books.
