Notre Dame's football program has been down for the past decade, usually being a mediocre team year after year, with the exception of Ty Willingham's first season. Part of that problem could be bad recruiting, part of it could be that talented players don't hold ND football in as high regard as in years past.

However, despite the fact that the Irish's program has been down for years, does anyone else notice this: When ND wins a couple of games to start the season, they're immediately predicted to compete for the National Title. The same thing's happened this year, the Irish beat what looks like a garbage Pittsburgh team, then the "experts" over at ESPN (the "P" stands for poker but I'm not sure the S stands for sports anymore) start talking about how ND will be contending for the title if they beat Michigan.

Blah blah blah blah.
