While I have this little list out... I'm going to start this post with some substitute snacks for those times when I am craving something but need to make better choices. Add this to
iliketiedye 's diet habits list and we are getting a good start to better health (and less weight to lug around).
Instead of 1/2 cup of granola cereal - have 1 cup of whole grain flakes or puffs (1/2 the calories)
Instead of 1 piece of pound cake - have 1 slice of angel food cake (1/4 the calories)
Instead of 1 oz of potato chips - have 5 cups of 94% fat-free popcorn (1/4 the calories)
Instead of 1 medium box french fries- have 1 large baked potato with sour cream and chives (2/3 cal)
Instead of 1 small fried chicken breast - have 1 small grilled chicken breast (1/4 cal)
Instead of chocolate- have a diet cocoa with ff whipped cream
Instead of a mocha - have a skinny cappuccino
Instead of cheddar- low fat string cheese (I like swirls)
Good low cal snacks to have on hand
SF Jello
Diet pop (watch the sodium- I like Vanilla Coke Zero)
FF Cool Whip
Fruits (try something new everytime I go to the store)- frozen berries and peaches on hand- great smoothies
Veggies
Low fat dip with cucumber slice chips
Low fat or sugar free coffee creamer
Tea at night to calm the munchies (Coconut macadamia tea from Hawaii is the new treat!)
Instead of searching the pantry- go walk around the block, jump on the bike, or dance to the music!
Drink more water- take my vitamins (and IRON) daily!
Make up lunches ahead of time so I don't go for whatever is easiest
Breakfast smoothies would be a good move, maybe - currently I grab a banana and granola bar on the way out.
Eat light all day - save points for the evening (my toughest time!)
And my motivations?
To be in GREAT shape for hiking 8-10 miles a day doing research in Yellowstone this June
To be looking good as "mother of the bride" in July
To keep up with my grandkids (#7 due this week!)
To see more of the wilderness that makes this world so amazing - and lose the crowds!
To extend my active, healthy lifestyle well beyond the years that slowed my mother down to a crawl
To avoid high blood pressure, heart disease, parkinsons, and cancer that run in my family
To keep my husband interested and in love . . . I need to FEEL sexy.
