I was hoping to get a chance to go and see the Glen Canyon that the receding water revealed, but alas I didn't have the time. Your pictures make me wish that I had had made the time for such a trip.
These pictures were taken months after the low point in the Spring. . . the water is back up, though nowhere near the high water mark. The depth finder on our friends' boat registered over 900 feet at times- in narrow slot canyon areas. . . very mixed emotions for me! The exploring is still an adventure. I would go again (these pictures were taken on my first and only trip to Powell, ever). Go, if you get a chance!
I got to go out there a couple of times before in the late 80's and again in the mid 90's. It was pretty neat.
They're pretty great pictures. I really, really like the 3rd one. Used to go to Powell with a friend's family when I was a kid and camp on one of the little islands. Are there any of those left?
I hadn't ever been to Powell before. Was the lake at high level when you were there? (the water used to go nearly under Rainbow Bridge- the last picture. . . now it is a 1/2 mile walk.) There are lots of places to camp- on peninsulas that jut out on the edge of canyons, or sand bars that are revealed in various areas depending on the water level.
Yep, really high...this was probably almost two decades ago. Beautiful place, and it's always fun to play in the water. In fact, Powell was the first time I ever tried water skiing. I never have been any good at it, but it's fun to try.
