Let me begin this post by saying that I love this country.  It may be true that one doesn’t fully appreciate his homeland until he’s left her—it’s certainly true in my case.  I am undeniably thankful for the safety, security and comfort of this nation.

Having said that, I am concerned about us.  I’m concerned about the American church, in particular.  I think we have been swamped by the deceitfulness of riches and the cares and affairs of this world—to use the words of Jesus.  So swamped, in fact, that the boat is sinking.  So deceived, in fact, that we don’t even know it.

This is a song by David Wilcox, that describes what I think will happen to us in this wonderful country, the United States of America.  I’m sure that Mr. Wilcox in no way considers himself a prophet, but I think he is singing prophetically.

Summer lasted a generation

A generation—then the winter wind.

The bounty harvest that seemed so endless—

It seemed so endless, ‘til it gave what it could give.

Prosperity will have its seasons.

And even when it’s here, it’s going by.

And when it’s gone, we pretend we know the reasons.

All the roots grow deeper when it’s dry.

It looked so easy.  We changed the weather.

And we would turn this world ourselves—our world, so small.

But slower rhythms, still unheard of

Said that every blessed summer someday has to fall.

Prosperity will have its seasons.

And even when it’s here, it’s going by.

And when it’s gone, we pretend we know the reasons.

All the roots grow deeper when it’s dry.

Our Father will act in His mercy, to cause us to turn to Him.  All the roots will grow deeper when it becomes dry.

Re: All The Roots Grow Deeper When It's Dry
Let me say a resounding AMEN!

Let the scoffers scoff, the "tarbabies" wail to be picked up... the Lord will have the final word, and we will ALL bend our knees. No exceptions... even the ones who don't believe in Him. Why does that make them so mad? Because deep in their hearts they know it is true. And because they know it is true, they hate the ones who try to warn them. God doesn't send anyone to Hell. Hell is the default setting for all of mankind since the Fall of Adam. God is the one who sent His dear Son to reconcile the World to Himself, to SAVE them from the Hell that they are headed for. We are His creation by default. But only His children by choice. Our nation will have to learn the hard way, and we will all suffer together. May we be strong enough to love and reach out with the truth of the Gospel when those hard times come.

Thank you for this post.

Re: All The Roots Grow Deeper When It's Dry

All worry about "the nation" dissolves and evaporates in a global perspective. Billy Collins: "How senseless to dread whatever lies before us when, night and day, the boats, strong as horses in the wind, come and go, bringing in the tiny infants and carrying away the bodies of the dead." Nice to bump into you again, Rev. Cathian; I see you're still warning the doomed of their terrible fate, but I'm way beyond alarm. Should you make so obvious your pleasure in the dire outcome of which you say you're so certain? Smiley

I agree with RevCathian on this one and  could not have said it any better.  Hell was prepared for Satan and his angels and unfortunately, has had to enlarge itself because he has deceived so many.  But yes, I also pray for strength to endure the dry times, and that our roots will just grow deeper and deeper until he comes for his children.
