I've been thinking about getting a tattoo for a few months now. It would be of a maneki neko (the lucky cats you see everywhere in Japanese restaurants), and I want to get it in a relatively inconspicuous place (I was thinking the inside of my left ankle or somewhere). There's another, albeit small, chance I'll be participating on the Miss NC USA pageant circuit this fall, and I'm not sure how they'd react to it, so right now this is all very tentative.

Another thing that concerns me is the "classy vs. trashy" argument with girls with tattoos. I'm kind of a prude when it comes to my own personal style and I try to maintain that whole "slightly exotic, slightly classy" thing that's relatively uncommon in girls. I don't want the tattoo anywhere on my arms, stomach, or lower back if I get it at all. I guess the wrist would be okay, and even the back of my neck if I grow my hair out. I guess I'm just not sure if I get it if people are automatically going to go "Oh what a skank" or something. I mean, Audrey Hepburn didn't have tattoos.

Any input is appreciated.

Re: Tattoos and whatnot
I think you can still be classy with a tattoo, as long as it's a rather inconspicuous place. The foot, I think, is a good choice. It's one of my spots in consideration for my tattoo and the one person I know with a classy tattoo has hers there as well.

Of course, I'd say go for it. Tattoos are an awesome (although painful) experience. If you want to keep it classy, just get it somewhere easily coverable. For example, mine is exactly where I wear a watch so I could easily cover it. I say go.

Thanks, Leah. Know of any good parlors?

The one I went to is in Greenville and I don't know too well around here. Try Inkwell.
