Playing on four days' rest, Kobe Bryant had 31 points and 11 rebounds, and the Los Angeles Lakers held on to beat the last-place Toronto Raptors 107-100 Friday night, when he went over the 17,000-point mark.

Bryant became the youngest player in NBA history to reach 17,000 points, going over the mark in the second quarter with a 16-foot jumper from the right baseline off a pass from rookie Jordan Farmar.

At 28 years and 86 days, Bryant got there faster than Wilt Chamberlain, Michael Jordan, Oscar Robertson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and former teammate Shaquille O'Neal.

Re: Kobe Fastest Player To 17,000 Points
Just a note to clarify. I am a Laker and Kobe fan, but comparing Kobe's "youngest to 17,000pts" at 28 years old to someone like Wilt is absurd. Much stricter than the recent age rule instituted by the NBA, Wilt was not allowed into the league until he had reached the age of 22 or 23 so he played 3 years at Kansas and 1 year with the Harlem Globetrotters. The only fair comparison is how many seasons/years it took the players to reach that milestone. Wilt's total points for his first 6 seasons are as follows: 2707, 3033, 4029, 3586, 2948, 2534...So Wilt broke 17,000 pts early in his 6th season in the league. That means for Kobe to fairly compare with Wilt, he should have broken 17,000 pts when he was 23 or 24! Go to www.wiltfan.tripod.com for some sobering and staggering facts about Wilt Chamberlain.
