Grow your own stuff! (or build from raw ingredients) - then you can be 100% sure. I'm just veggie, and even then I have to check absolutely everything because I just can't trust... it's like I can't eat smarties, because a certain food colouring comes from beetles... and I have to watch out for gelatine

Yea, i am working on cutting out all processed foods, but that takes time. I am just proud that this is day 4 without soda

Re:
well done you can process your own I guess...
why full vegan though? I guess I can understand no animal products where the animal suffered (i.e. eggs from battery hens) - but things like milk or wool wouldn't hurt them maybe? - although it's not right to raise and selectively breed animals for the purpose of harvesting those things in the first place - either love/look after them as pets or leave them in wild. I am against horse racing, and I don't know whether they like to be ridden at all - but domestication can be good in that it takes away the fear of humans

Actually the process of taking milk from the cows isn't what's so much painful- it has to do with the things they pump INTO the cattle to produce more milk, like bovine growth horomones. Also the living conditions  AND the machine they wear can irritate their udders to infection, which gets in your milk. gross right?. Plus, soy milk is amazingly delicious.

I def. agree with growing your own. Also if you did want to someday eat eggs you could always have your own chickens, that way you know they are being treated fairly ( if the treatment of animals is what spurted the vegan). If it's more for health reasons, growing vegetables and making your own vegan broth for soups would be quite easy.

My major suggestion would be to watch your protein. There are tons of products out there that aren't too expensive that help.Completely cutting out pop is great ( i'm trying to...and somewhat failing), but you might want to invest in some soy milk. Tofu is also fantastic when marinated  or used in a stir fry, and fake meats are packed with protein =]

Re:
I have soy milk and ice cream actually. i love them both.

The chicken idea is great, however, I live in a townhouse, so I dont think my neighbors would like that much. Haha

I have been eating soy, tofu, and nuts and beans for protein.

Re:
In that case, farmers that use it should be prosecuted for animal cruelty. I'd like it if there was some sort of guarantee label on milk to say it'd come from cattle that didn't take the hormone (organic? dunno). The way people have breeded cows to be is pretty disgraceful - to the point where cows get a buildup of milk (and infection) if they're not milked, the only long term solution I can think of is to try to breed cows back in the other direction

100%!

I probably should, but in 12 years of vegetarianism I've never bothered watching nutrition lol - I rely on the idea that my body will make me crave whatever food I need nutrients from. I do eat beans and things as part of my diet though, but I probably don't get all amino acids and I lack muscle and never put weight on, but iI don't mind! haha. I don't like to even be reminded of meat, but I think fake meat is a good intermediary for people who'd miss it.
Is there such thing as soy chocolate?

Re:
They do make soy choc. You can even get it online.

One time when you are bored check out chooseveg.com. they should be prosecuted!! Its terrible.

The worst is the eggs. They snap off their beaks, blind them, and confine them to cages from birth to death. When they have baby boy chicks, they usually toss them in a dumpster to die or throw them alive in a wood chipper. How is this allowed. It is terrible.

I have never been so happy with a desicion in my life.

There is a lot of info about "organic" foods out there. Skinny Bitch tells you so much about dairy and the way our country lies about it. Its scary. The USDA is scary. Check it out, its so worth the read.

Yeah It's pretty horrible. My friend has chickens so I eat their eggs. And that's quite a bummer about your townhouse =] Maybe you can sway your neighbors with free eggs?
