This is Why I Want a Garage

It took many years for me to develop this habit, but I do lock my car whenever I'm away from it.  Blame it on the fact that I grew up in a small town, virtually free of crime.  People didn't even lock their homes, let alone their cars.

So leaving my car unlocked on Sunday night was a fluke.  Honestly.  I just forgot.  (Yes, there were odd circumstances that led me to forget, but they're beside the point, now.)

Naturally, I went to my car tonight and found it had been gone through.

The unwelcome guest got away with a case of books.  It figures that it was the far more expensive of the two books I have in my car.  Well, it wasn't a full case.  Maybe eight books, max.  Not a huge deal.

The box, though, also contained a bunch of bumperstickers and pins that I sometimes sell at fairs.  Again, irritating, but no big deal.

But they also got my pool cue.  And that bums me out.

No, it wasn't an expensive one, really.  But it was a birthday gift, from some years ago.  I can replace it, of course, but that's not the point.  Nothing I lost was irreplaceable.  I'm out a couple hundred bucks, of course, to replace it all.  That pisses me off.  But not as much as the simple fact that I was "hit" in the first place.
