Every so often, I go back through and re-read old blog entries. Often, I read of things I've completely forgotten about. It's often good for a laugh.
I just read
Name That Pet. And it brought to mind another dog name story.
Many years ago, several of my friends and I went over to the home of another friend to watch a movie and hang out. This friend had recently gotten a dog... a rottweiler, as I recall. At this point, it was still a puppy, not even knee-high, yet. Really adorable. And Jeff had named him... Squirt.
Now, sure. Cute name for a puppy. But by the time this beastie became full-grown, that was going to seem like a bizarro name. Like the circus strongman named Tiny, y'know?
Anyway, we all gathered in Jeff's living room, and Squirt was all excited to see us... jumping up on us and licking our hands and whatnot. But Jeff was trying to train the dog to behave, so he's standing over by the door, pointing at the floor near his feet and trying to get the dog to come over and be still. He's yelling at the dog... "Squirt, heel!" "Squirt, get over here!" "Squirt, sit!"
The dog, of course, is paying no attention to him.
Finally, Jeff yells, "Squirt, come!"
I think we scared the poor puppy when we all burst out laughing.
