Doesn't that just feel violating? I remember how strange it felt when my car was stolen. I can commiserate with your loss... except that I got my car back. Sorry for your bike

Y'know, the funny thing is, I'm not reacting as badly as I should be. Maybe it's because my depression was already bad this weekend to begin with. But when I walked out and saw it was gone, I just stood there and sighed. And then I put in a load of laundry.
It's almost like I expected it would happen, and I guess in reality, I did, on some level.
I've filed a police report, but I have no expectations of getting the bike back.

Dangerously impractical, in my apartment. The stairs up to my place are very narrow. Trying to navigate a bike up or down them would likely result in a broken neck.
A) That never would have occurred to me.
B) I have a hatchback, which means that the bike would be visible, which means
C) I'd likely end up with a stolen bike AND a busted window in the car.
Me? Pessimistic? Naw.

Get a hardened steel bike lock that would take a blowtorch to cut through. No cable, hardened steel rod.
I believe that in the Old West horse thieves were usually hanged...often in a somewhat irregular manner, granted.
Maybe what you really need is a crappier-looking bike that no one will want to steal.
Well, the irony is that I'm typically the kind of person to research stuff before I buy it. But I didn't research bike locks. I sort of just purchased one at the store as an afterthought. "Oh, yeah, a lock is a good idea..."
Turns out that cable locks are little better than hemp rope when it comes to stealing bikes. An article I just read yesterday said that even the best ones can be sawn through in about a minute. Figures.
Further, had I known this beforehand, I'd have purchased a higher end lock... which actually come with insurance! Some of them up to a few thousand dollars. You better believe if I do buy another bike, I'll be investing in a much better lock.
You need a better lock... or a Glock.
And lots of caffeine.
Stay up and wait for the bastard to try again, and while the lock is slowing him down, the Glock comes into play.

A baseball bat is a lot cheaper. And a lot more therapeutic. Something about pounding the shit out of someone that's much more cathartic than simply shooting them.
Which is why you aim for having the most firepower possible at your disposal.
12 gauge semi-automatic shotgun with a bayonet gives you options for almost anything.

Our friend isn't a "firearms" carring person. I can't see him with a "cap" gun let alone a Glock.. *L*

A plastic hammer?
That's about as useful as a tissue paper condom.
How about a wrench? If you've got a bike, you've probably got tools to work on it, right?

More a mallet than a hammer, actually. Very solid. A blow to the head with it would hurt like a motherfucker, if not render you unconscious. I mean, it's made to pound stakes into the ground, after all, and works quite well for that purpose.
I had a bike for a month... until it got stolen. Hadn't yet purchased any tools for it.
But yeah... I've got "real" tools, including wrenches. Screwdivers. I've got a walking stick, too, which is much closer to the door than my toolbox.
