Nothing like a new toy to start up some "art". I went out today and spent some money [that I don't have] on these toys [that I don't need]. I bought a beautiful leather sketchbook with amazing recycled cream colored paper and walnut ink. If only I could post the smell of these new things. I love the organic warm feel of walnut ink. I made two sketches with it so far, those awful warped hands and a self portrait, I always butcher my nose for some reason. It does bleed through the page more than I thought it would so I guess I'll have to just work on one side... we'll see. I think I'm going to try and use a brush to do larger portions of color so I can shade some more.

I discovered a new artist today, or rather I learned the name of the artist I've admired for a month or so already. His name is Yoav and we have been playing his CD Charmed & Strange in the store for a while and every time the song Club Thing comes on I think, "man I've got to find out who that is!" He's amazing check him out... maybe I'll post his video it's sort of awesome as well.

Re: Stuff
Good supplies are important and worth the money.
Remember art feeds your soul and allows you to feed the souls of others.
It is worth the sacrifice.

When My daughter had my daughter make her first painting for me Melanie bought her good acrylics and used a canvas not junkie paper. Melanie wanted it to survive. Raechel made it at 6 months old.

Re: Stuff
I forgot. My dad says hands and noses are the hardest things to draw and carve.
He has been drawing all his life and carving for 20 years.

Re: Stuff
that's so very true hands I understand how they're difficult but noses seem like they should be so easy. I have a friend who has a sketch book of nothing but hands, he did a whole thing for a college art class on hands through the different styles of art it's really quite interesting.

Re: Stuff
It would be. When i had a 35mm and telephoto lens I photographed hands for about 25 years. I wanted to show artists, craftsmen, musicians through their hands.
