
Also, that tends to make it seem like the union is isolationist which is obviously false - look at Regans dealings in central America or the current occupation of Iraq or American military aid for Israel.
The confederates would have most likely been more isolationist then the union since they depended on agriculture (hence the appeal of slavery) more then industry.
They had less military ability to invade then the north.
And who needs to conquer a land and make the people citizens with pesky "rights" when you can just put in a puppet gov't that will supress the people for you and call it freedom.
