Are you laughing?

Adam Carolla, former co-host of that pinnacle of moronitude and slob humor show, "The Man Show", thinks it's funny.

He did a skit poking fun at the Asian Excellence Awards and thought saying "ching-chong"" was so funny that he did it 42 times- consecutively. http://racerelations.about.com/b/a/244914.htm

Are you laughing your ass off?

Woo-hoo!! What a hoot!

What next? "Me Chinese! Me make joke!" skits?

How about resurrecting that bucktoothed slanty-eyed, glasses-wearing abomination that Mickey Rooney portrayed in "Breakfast at Tiffany's"?

You up for some "Chinese, Japanese, dirty knees..."?

Remember when I said that I am usually shocked when I hear about things like this?

I'm getting less and less surprised.

Asians are considered "fair game" when it comes to stuff like this. We're considered the folks who don't fight back- the invisible and silent minority.

Unreal.

Stereotypes and blatant racism are, plainly put, for the feeble minded.

They're for the folks who can't conceive of, comprehend or imagine viewing life outside of their field of vision. It's easier after all to cling to the old standby- the belief that people are, because of the color of their skins and their cultural, racial or ethnic background, a certain way.

People don't realize that making fun of the Chinese language by saying "ching-chong" is racist. It's ridiculous. People know they can't get away with that crap when its directed at the black community because the black community would raise a huge stink about it. I hope the Asian community does the same. I caught a couple of my students making fun of Asian languages and I lit into their asses. Mrs. L doesn't play that!

How old are your students, Myclette?

Many of my students have never even met Asians outside of their local bullet-proof Chinese take-out joint, a few teachers and, well, me.

Anyway, I underestand that are a few Asian Am. groups who plan to raise some hell over this.

Let's see what happens. After all, a few groups protested Ambercrombie and Fitch's racist anti-Asian t-shirts to the point that A & C relented and no longer sold the shirts.

I was watching a Mystery Science Theatre 3000 episode yesterday and they had an old movie where Asian people played non-humans and white people played humans. At the time I was thinking how much things have changed but then reading this post reminds me they haven't changed as much as I'd like to think.

Remember "Flash Gordon"? Up until the 80's version, the Ming the Merciless character was portrayed as vaguely Asian.

Yeah- he was an ALIEN but he was created to represent the WW2 version of the cold and calculating "Yellow Peril".

Ya its one thing to not like something as a individual.........but not being able to nuance it just for yourself, is just disrespectfull...

You can show respect by being silent, it does not require to like or love what you respect......

But it is required to respect, so you can be tolerant and live in peace......

I'm not sure I understand your point. Can you clarify?

Re: Ching-chong ching-chong ching-chong ching-chong...
I believe we are taught to hate / or judge certain groups of people, based upun race or behaviour or the possesions of those people.

I believe it would be better if each of us as a person would make up our own mind in regard to other people without race, behaviour or possesions being a issue.

I also believe you can't possibly like all people, sometimes it's just not someone you feel comfortable with.

And that is what I meant with, put some nuance in your life, meaning decide for your self to like or not like someone not looking at race, judging at behaviour and or possesions.

If you do not like a certain person, you can choose to judge, get aggressive etc. or you can choose to focus on people you do like not speaking of the one you don't like.

I think thats Respect among other things.

I'm amazed that someone like Corolla can do anything more than grunt.  The "man" is a neanderthal!  Look at the guy!  I'm not surprised at all that he considers stupid shit like that funny.  He's a 12 year trapped in the body of caveman.

He's what's wrong with this country.  And his ex-cohort Jimmy Kimmel.  They are reasons why the world thinks we're assholes and why we have Mr. monkey-face in the oval office.

Canada here I come!
