PASSOVER

Today a spotless lamb was chosen

Sacrificed for the sins of all

It’s blood on the mantles of the doors

So the eldest would not fall

The angel of death came around

And took the child of each

Of the families who had not killed,

Painted and had the feast

They could not relax as they usually did

Could not lie around nor lounge

They had to gather things and go

When they heard the trumpet sound

What a triumph when Jehovah great

With his strong right hand

Led them out of Egypt’s chains

Toward Canaan’s land!

So this day we celebrate

The Lord in his great power

Knowing He’s victorious

Back then, and at this hour.

Happy Passover to all of my Jewish friends.

Re: PASSOVER
Here I am again, Bonnie, wondering why an all-knowing, all-powerful god and his angel couldn't find a way to free his people without slaughtering people. Hey, I'm ordinary, and if I had such knowledge and power I could find a better way than that!

Re: PASSOVER
Well, Mr Incorrigible; one would think that the creator of the universe would not have to ask his creation what he should and should not do, hey?  But, in my humble opinion, I think that since he is omniscient, all knowing, He knew the end from the beginning, and knew that perhaps the Israelites might just have had trouble with the mighty Egyptians further along the way if he did not do it this way.  But, too, they had had ten chances, with very mild plagues to persuade them, but Pharaoh insisted on renege every time.  This was the last straw, so to speak and was ultimately his own fault.

Re: PASSOVER
Psst! Shhh! Don't tell anybody, but there's a rumor going around that it was the usual kind of angry, bloodthirsty human beings who did all the killing and then attributed it to an angel of god to justify it: "It wasn't us! God did it!" Heresy, heresy!

Re: PASSOVER
Not, so stop it already....you are close to heresy you are! Although it actually says that God himself went over, and not an angel, and I took a bit of poetic license by saying they heard a trumpet, cause I think they had to go really quietly so the Egyptians would not know they were leaving until they were far away, but hey, people got the gist anyway!

Thanks for reading me anyway misterskank; you must have me added! If so; I am honored.  I really think you like hanging around Christians, although some of my poetry is not very Christlike...but hey, I have said before that I am one of God's 'willful' children at best!

Re: PASSOVER
Be grateful, forgive, don't worry, be happy: god's personal message to me.

Re: PASSOVER:
I think He is probably more interested in us being holy than happy, cause that will ensure our happiness in the long run; true joy.

Re: PASSOVER:
Got true joy, Bonnie, yet I'm not "holy" and don't ever want that word applied to me! Go figure, right? Ain't words somethin?

: )

Re: PASSOVER:
ooooooooh, i love woids; and you know what? i like you took you weirdo...
now, how's that for a word applied to you? "the joyful weirdo"  giggle!

don't tell anyone, but I don't consider myself holy either; seems as soon i gets washed clean, i's smearin' me all dirty again...told you, he's goth his hands full with the likes of me

Re: PASSOVER:
I like it—and I was sure you wouldn't claim that word holy for yourself, just too over the top. Let's stay friends!

Re: PASSOVER:
Sure!  I just think I took you off my friend's list cause I wasn't really into what you write....Do you mainly write about political issues?  I know nothing and really wish to know basically nothing about that, and certainly have no right to argue anything, seeing that my blissful ignorance will show thru if and when I do!
Rather stick to what I know, and that is a bit of fluff...lol!

Re: PASSOVER:
Politics, history, religion, philosophy, education—mainly those. Politics is about who eats, who starves, who gets bread, who gets bombs. It makes me sick.

Re: PASSOVER:
I know! It does me too; almost as bad as country music, except that tells whose taking whose wife away as well!

But I have you now, so will see firsthand!

Re: PASSOVER
Brilliant answer Ms BF..

In my humble opinion, you rock!

btw....as far as your Jewish friends go...do you have any messianic jewish friends, any Jewish aquaintances who have come to follow Jesus?...Just wondering..

When I was in the US, I wanted to attend some Jews for Jesus services but didn't end up doing it. The movement is growing I think.

Re: PASSOVER
Thank you Birdie, for that compliment, for which I am honored.  For the record, I think you rock too, my girl!

But no; I have heard of many, and have preacher friends who do have many Christian friends in Israel and in the States as well, but I do not have any personally.  I wrote this mainly for the Jewish friends in my friends' list on here, but for anyone to whom it applies.  Because, of course (which I did not put in th poem), we believe that it holds a shadow to the new testament where we apply the blood of the lamb, which was slain for us, (Jesus) to the posts of our hearts to ward off the death angel as well.  And every passover we rejoice in the fact that we, too are on our way to Canaan's land, which is not of this world!

OH yes, I would not miss it for the world!  I will give you a huge hug for all the times I wished to, for encouragement and could not!
