Okay, it's been a long while since I wrote in this blog, but I'm not going to go through with reasons why.  Since it's October -- my favorite month -- it has given me the excuse to start picking out Halloweenie Goth music for ya all.  Today's music comes at you first from MOTORHEAD: "Hail to the King of Kings"

Again, not officially a Goth song, nor is it a song on the soundtrack of EVIL DEAD, but a clever person on YouTube.com made such a lovely tribute to our man, Ash, that I couldn't resist putting it up.

So, you're wondering, is it possible to turn a B-movie horror film from 1981 into a kick ass musical? I'm not sure. But a few folks have done it, and from what I've seen it's definitely possibly a cool thing. Witness, if you dare, this clip from EVIL DEAD: THE MUSICAL...
The scene below is part of the opening where Ash (our hero) is romancing his girlfriend in a remote cabin deep in the woods where, unknown to them both, demons await to possess their friends once Ash discovers THE BOOK OF THE DEAD.

This musical would be better viewed live, me thinks. It seems to have the feel of CANNIBAL! THE MUSICAL -- of which I will feature later this week!
Here's the original movie trailer for EVIL DEAD:

I have to admit that this movie scared the shit out of me when I was 11! Waaaaay before "Nightmare on Elm Street" or "Friday the 13th" this movie had me keeping the lights on late at night. Watching it now, I notice the cheesy effects and melodramatic acting and it just warms my dark lil' heart. Yeah. Here's to the King, Baby!

I heard about the musical too...the first few rows of seats are to be avoided as that is apparently the "splash zone" heh heh. Or maybe it was the splatter zone... I'm not sure if I will go try to see this because while I do love the Evil Dead franchise, I've always been a bit iffy on musicals. But you never know, could be fun!

I currently have a Motorhead ringtone (Ace of Spades) on my cellphone...those guys are awesome.

I love Motorhead!  "Ace of Spades" is probably my favorite song by them.  Reminds me of the episode they starred in on "The Young Ones!"

yeah, I do take musicals with a grain of salt, and would only be interested in this one because it's Evil Dead -- heck, I'd even sit in the "splatter zone!"

Ooh, I love The Young Ones and the musical guests they would have at times. Yeah, Ace of Spades always makes me smile. A few years ago Robert and I spent a hilarious evening with some of the members of Motorhead, after a female friend and I got handpicked by the roadies out of the audience to come back and "party" with the band after the show...very retro! Ha ha...it was more "Spinal Tap" than anything else. Lemmy obviously went straight to bed, their drummer hit the buffet and wouldn't stop stuffing his face, and the guitarist cracked himself up over and over with an electronic whoopee cushion in his pocket that kept going off "accidentally." Hardly the badass rockers they always try to come off as.

Have you seen the British show Black Books? If not, I'm sure you'd love it. One of my favorite scenes has the characters coming home drunk from a party and dancing to "Ace of Spades"...it's a riot!

Ooh, I'll have to check that show out.

I love Motorhead.  Lemmy always reminds me of some of my "black sheep" relatives... !

Okay, I just watched that video.  I'm going to HAVE TO track down this show.

My Irish pen pal, Pauly, always tells me that Motorhead is the token heavy metal band of all time in the UK -- he once said to me that, after moving to the U.S. he's so surprised that Americans don't do as the English do: use Motorhead music more often when a TV show requires it!

I really think you'll love Black Books...the main character is this drunken Irish guy who owns a bookstore, but the problem is he really hates customers. You can now get seasons one and two on DVD here in the US, but if you have a multi-region DVD player, there's a really nice box set of all three seasons that you can get off the UK Amazon site. I have the box set and love it.

Oooh, that does sound nice.  One of these days I'll make that purchase...  for now I'm still catching up with other TV shows, but I'll put it on my list.
