By now you have read Bigdoc's blog telling about his retirement.  Seems no one wanted to hire him at age 63;  well, I'm 60 and no one wants me either.  I admit I didn't look as hard as he did, but I did have 2 serious interviews, filled out two job applications, and, alas, no one has hired me.  A part-time "something" would be great where I would not have to be on my feet for hours at a time, just a little money to pay for a few girl-type things such as a monthly pedicure, occasional lunches out with friends, the beauty shop (I'll still need to get hair cuts but will begin coloring it myself), an occasional craft show, etc.  Guess I will be patient, keep looking from time to time and see what happens.

The funny thing is that I really love having Bigdoc around all the time.  My sister said once that she would not like her husband to ever retire and be home 24/7 because he would drive her nuts!  I said I would love having mine home, and it is true;  I love having him around.  He's not perfect, you understand, but he's perfect for me.  So we will just go on into this next phase of life and see where God leads us.  God is SO GOOD.

Re: Nobody Wants Me Either
Awww that's sweet about you and your husband.  My wife and I get along great.  We have alot of fun together and I don't believe we would annoy each other after retirement unless it was on purpose..haha.

Hope the job hunt goes better.

Re: Nobody Wants Me Either
My husband was in-between jobs not to long ago and all I can say is, 'I am sure glad that I am working'.   It's hard for me to think about retirement, even though I am only 15 years younger than you.  We do have a retirement plan but have only invested in it a little bit, since we became self-employed 16 years ago.

I can't think about investing that far in the future when there is so much to think about now.  We are trying to live debt-free except for having a morgage.  In which, would be something we may have for a very long time!  Since we got six children who all need to go to college.  I would like to build one or two houses on our property to relieve some of that future debt and prepare for retirement.

In my retirement, I would like to own a resort here in Pittsburgh along the rivers w/pet resort in connection with RCI; starting out small with a small hotel and just the property.  One of my goals in retirement is to travel the world and spend time with the grandchildren.  Is there anything that the two of you would like to do in having your own business?

The "voice of experience" here suggests to you that you might want to add more to that retirement fund more often; you will be glad in 15 years that you have done that.  Debt free is almost mandatory for retirement, and your idea to build several houses on your prperty for your fututure sounds very wise.

We would love to travel a bit but the cost may be prohibitive for us; this retirement came 3 years earier than our planned retirement would have been.  That means that some things were not paid up yet (such as the mortgage, and my long term care coverage, etc.  This year I doubt we will work (unless I get something) but time changes things, so who knows what the future holds?  Only He who holds our future.  God bless.

Well you have certainly thought through the situation and with God looking out for your best interest you shall not go wrong!  My heart goes out to you and I will keep you in my prayers!

I'm only 6 years younger than you are....and I can't imagine retirement either. Divorced, about to send my youngest to college, working part-time with no benefits and looking for a full time job...I'm going to be working til I can't work any more--and then I'll be a greeter at Walmart!!!
How refreshing to hear that you like having Bigdoc around all the time. You're definitely in the minority on that count. Bigdoc is a lucky man.

Keep that energy level up and you will do well.  And I agree with you that Bigdoc is a lucky man.    God bless
