I've been gone a... while. I just needed some time away from all this. Mindsay is not the place it used to be, and I'm only here because my roots are deep. I don't have a reason to transplant myself to another spot. Yet, there is a lot of trivial bickering here, perhaps more than ever. What does any of that matter, anyway?

And this post relates to that. I came back here to ask some questions. It would really help me to hear other's perspectives on these things, so if you could, please pass this on to others so we can all hear their responses.

Imagine that for some reason (impending doom) that the entire world is absolutely convinced that there is only 100 days left. The questions are...

What would you do if knew the world was going to end in 100 days?

How do you think the world would be different if it was going to end in 100 days?

Assuming you would, how would you live out the rest of your days?

Re: 100 Days: A writing experiment
For one, I'd drink all the booze/beer in the house - I hate to see good alcohol go to waste!

Then, I'd do something really nasty to all the asshole doctors that have told me that smoking would kill me!!

I think I'd definitely have a beer or three. I have a case of beer sitting here for someone else. It is safe to say they probably wouldn't get it. haha.

Re: 100 Days: A writing experiment
I would immediately leave where I live now and go hang out with (more) family.

Not much else would change except I have many friends that I grew up with in my social networking networks that I would need to send some letters to.

I think if it was shown that the world was going to end in 100 days, then it would be pointless for wars to continue, elections to be held etc. So hopefully soldiers would be coming home.

Many people would probably go totally hedonistic on us. People would empty their bank accounts for frivolous activities. A lot of people would walk of their jobs (which could be bad).

Great idea for a post.

Re: 100 Days: A writing experiment
I agree. I think I would want to spend as much time with the people that matter to me as possible. I also think we are on the same page as far as wars go, because they are always over something that requires permanence to matter. Without any "long run", many largely trivial things would lose importance, while things we tend to ignore daily or take for granted would become high priorities. I imagine that money would immediately become pointless, so non-essential (and even essential jobs) would come to a halt. Not many people will for the last 100 days of existence. I wouldn't.

That was... not many people will WORK for the last 100 days... I wouldn't.

Re: 100 Days: A writing experiment
I agree with you on the last point, but the wars...  I think the wars would get worse.  The fighting in places like the Middle East and Balkans would grow exponentially.  I think more people would be willing to fight and die for causes than before, because they know they aren't losing much if there's only a hundred days left anyway.

Re: 100 Days: A writing experiment
You could be right... but I've always thought that when it comes to war... if there isn't much to lose, there isn't much to fight for.

With the end so close, everyone cashing in their vacation time, people just giving up on working, and production reaching insanely low levels...  Humanity has one grand response to shortages of what it needs:  expend more finite resources to take the scraps from someone else.

Re: 100 Days: A writing experiment
I would be protecting myself as violence would increase to levels we have never seen.

You say that with such certainty!

Re: 100 Days: A writing experiment
Yeah, I believe at that point a lot of people would turn into animals knowing that they only have a short time left.

I agree

Re: 100 Days: A writing experiment
I'm sure violence would be an issue... but the reasons behind crime and violence would be turned on their head, since theft of most property would be pointless, because most of our non-essential products would become  valueless.

Re: 100 Days: A writing experiment
That's very true, but we all know that humans aren't that smart as a whole. It only takes one idiot to start something and a few more idiots to follow.

Re: 100 Days: A writing experiment
See, to me, that kind of underestimation is what would lead to violence. People would expect others to just go violent, so they would be violent to follow suit.

Re: 100 Days: A writing experiment
That's possible as well.

Re: 100 Days: A writing experiment
& it is possible that people will just go apesh!t violent lol -- anything is possible.

I tried explaining ininitesimal possibilities to a friend of mine, and he just refuses to understand it. Alas, I digress!

Re: 100 Days: A writing experiment
Okay, to answer your questions [putting name & date at the top left of my sheet of paper]

"The world is a land of contrasts..."

lol no no, I am kidding with the sixth grade essay. Here are my real answers:

If the world was ending in one hundred days, believe it or not, I think I would be sobbing my eyes out uncontrollably. I would probably break down, but I would be breaking down with my family. I know the love would definitely be intensified with everyone I know, which is why I doubt that mass hysterics & violence would be taking place. I think there is more sanity in the world than other people may think. While some people may consider it optimism, I think of it as pretty real =) I guess it is all about perspective, huh?

Naturally, I would think that the world would probably calm the f*ck down if the world was going to end in one hundred days. What is the point of violence & possessions after that? Hell, I think people might even abandon their homes & take off to their own little paradises if the world was about to end.

Anyway, and to answer the last question, my days would be lived out in pure bliss! What is the point of being angry with anyone? Nothing will matter in the given time frame.

Re: 100 Days: A writing experiment
1. Spend time with my family. I have been through the period of either not being understood or not understanding, so I would inhale as much love, smell and spirit of my beginings as possible.

2.Nothing would matter. The little things people find joy in  fighting over would be lost and things we turn away from, things that hurt too much and appear too big to solve might just be easier too fix.

3. Not in a relationship and can't see myself running out to get one in the 100 day rush, so I would hold the hands of everyone that I loved. Boil up a hugeeeeeeee pot of garlic crabs with a side dish of fresh fried corn, sushi, bottle of whine and play everything from Bob Marley to BEBE and Cece. (yes everyday)

glad you decided to come back even if it is just for a visit. There is a great deal of negativity, but at the same time there are people such as yourself that even some of that out.
