I'm so excited about this film. I just finished reading the novel by Arthur Golden. Now, I'm obsessed in finding everything about geishas... I was so amazed how Golden described their lifestyle - the way they dress, their make-up, their hairstyles. I've been wanting to read the novel but haven't had the time to do it. During the Christmas vacation, I see to it that I finished the book since I know they will be showing the movie soon. Of course, I would like to read the book first to see if the movie would deliver it well. Visit their site and view the trailer.

Speaking of movies, I saw Beautiful Boxer last week and it was really, really, really great! It's based on a true story about a gay Muay Thai Boxer who mastered the art of kickboxing so he could help his family, and achieve his ultimate dream of becoming a woman. This movie is very inspiring and truly one of a kind. Watch it! This movie is highly recommended and has won various movie awards from all over the world. Definitely on my top ten must-see-movie.

  • Oh no freakin way....I'm totally RAWRED about the movie too. I read the book awhile ago, and when I heard there was going to be a movie...I just about went into a seizure. I have read the book again recently...just so, you know...I can be like, "Oh no...Mameha's Kimono was grey....."...."Hmph. That's not what the book described...".

Yes, I'm afraid of that too. Everything in the book was richly described, I dunno if it will have the same effect as when you get just a glimpse of it in the movie. I'm also planning to read the book for the second time, hehe. I heard Zhang Zi Yi has a great dance sequence in the movie. I'm looking forward in seeing it 'cos I admired her when she danced in the movie House of Flying Daggers.

  • Zhang Ziyi is a hottie....and no matter the movie, the book is always better, so I don't expect much....it's the fact that the book was so good there's a movie that should count.

yeah...I thought so especially after watching Beautiful Boxer, I'm afraid I'll be disappointed with Memoirs. Still, I'm going to see it, can't wait! Watch Beautiful Boxer, it's so....so...sooooooooo good! This is the first time I've seen a Thai Movie and I'm glad I did.

Re: Memoirs of a Geisha
The book is not very faithful to its subject, taking many liberties as to events and circumstances described. It's not as all-out farcical as Dan Brown's book (we all know what that one is), but it doesn't tell the whole truth either. But yeah, I have to agree, it's a very good read.

Some people have criticized the film, most of all the actors, most of whom are not even Japanese to begin with. They just took any Asian actress with a big name and cast her there (read: Zhang Zi Yi and Michell Yeoh). And what's up with the accents?

Sorry to burst everyone's bubble, I'm just stating a couple of facts. Hahahaha.

I will watch the movie though. Pao wants to see it; he has a crush on Zhang Zi Yi.

Don't worry, you didn't burst any bubble...I know it's a flop despite the big names and the popularity of the book. It didn't even win any golden globe awards yesterday and was hardly nominated. Zhang Zi Yi was there though, being pretty as ever. You have to admit she's a good actress and a dancer. Maybe that's why they got her because they know she's a good dancer and there's a big dancing sequence in the movie. Plus they know there are many guys drooling over her. I also think Ken Watanabe is good so I would like to see him as the Chairman..hehe.

I'm also looking forward in seeing Da Vinci Code and X-Men 3 this year.

Watch Beautiful Boxer, it's still showing in G1. Don't you ever miss it, it's soooooooooo good.

Re: Memoirs of a Geisha
Yeah, Ken Watanabe. That guy's cool. He was the saving grace of the big joke that was The Last Samurai. He was also in Batman Begins, but his role wasn't very memorable. I don't even remember him ever having spoken in that film.

I've seen Beautiful Boxer. Tagal na. Can't believe it's still showing. Haha.
