This morning I finally had the opportunity to get my hair cut.  I was supposed to have a parent-teacher conference, which was postponed.  I've had long hair since 10th grade.  It's thick, luscious, and wavy.  It has been electric pink and had blonde tiger stripe highlights.  It's most often worn in a ponytail, but occasionally in a braid or two.  It used to be in layers, but I gave that up years ago.  When people describe me, it's always "socKs, with the really long hair."

Because it's all one length, it's fairly low maintenance, with the exception of getting out knots.  But I also tend to forget to get it cut.  Which sounds odd, but since it's not "styled" I don't remember to go get regular trims to keep the ends neat.  I generally know it's time to get it cut when it starts to bother me.  Today was that time.

So instead of going back to the preschool, I ran into my local Hair Cuttery.  I would like to donate my hair to either Locks of Love or Pantene's Beautiful Lengths programs, but the bottom still has the end of my tiger stripe highlights and lots of split ends.  So she would of needed to cut off 12" to make up for that. and it would have ended up shoulder length.  Instead, I showed her where I wanted it cut up to, and into a pony tail it went, and off it came.  I ended up getting about 7" cut off, which of course Shiny would say "I'd be bald!", and it still is longer than most people.  But it feels lighter, looks better, and I'd be surprised if most people even notice for a good month or so.

I'd still like to go into a salon and say "Do whatever you want, as long as I look professional for work"  and just see what they'd do with this blank canvas.  But I think baby steps are good for now!

Electric pink??? I missed electric pink hair? I feel so left out.

I have single-length, low-maintenance hair my own self. I'm going to miss it when it's gone.

Re: Down to there hair
On our honeymoon trip, while in San Francisco, we saw two chicks - one had a baby blue page boy hair cut, and her friend's was lavender.  Over dinner that night, Shiny asked me what color I would dye my hair, to which I replied "Pink!"  The next night (fueled on nothing but amazing sushi - no alcohol or elicit drugs involved) we were in Berkeley and walked into a salon and bought some funky hair dye and bleach.  That night I dyed the bottom 6" of my hair fluorescent pink.  Shiny attempted some bronze highlights, which turned out an embarrassing shade of muppet orange (picture the Count, but with orange instead of white hair).  More coloring the following morning corrected his hair, and it turned out quite cute.  I forgot my hair was now bright pink (I was used to it), so it was quite shocking for everyone else when we got home - especially my boss!.  After a month or so, the pink washed out and it was left blonde, and I cut it off.  Boss happy.  I've got a photo of it around here somewhere...

Re: Down to there hair
I do regret is that I wasn't more adventurous with my hair in college.  I was an art major after all, but my "nice sorority girl" side tended to win out.  And my boyfriend at the time was also rather straight-laced.  That and, when I think about it, no one was doing their hair in funky colors like that (at least not at our school).  The strangest hair you saw were on the Goths, but even still their hair was jet black.  Oh well.  I do have a cool black page boy wig with bright pink streaks in it, but it freaks out Av when I wear it.

Excellent!!!!  I can see that it isn't as eye-popping in the pic, but I can get a general idea.

Such  hair!!!!  Amazing.  Hey...who's that guy she's with, anyway? I thought it was your honeymoon?

Ah.... that.

I guess she forgot to tell you that she wasn't the only one who dyed his/her hair that night...

I forget to have my hair cut, too. Usually manage once or twice a year.

Except I just got it cut, and the darned stylist decided I needed bangs. Which means maintenance.

Having donated my hair to Locks of Love and Wigs for kids (once each) I can tell you that loosing that much at once is a bit of a shock, but well worth it.

Love the pink ends!
