At the same time, though, some of the people God used were very highly educated. Luke was a physician, Paul studied at the feet of arguably the best teacher of Judaism of his day, and even those fishermen like Peter were probably fairly intelligent fellows.
No arguing with your point, though, which is our worth does not depend on a degree. Some of the people I respect and admire most on this planet have achieved quite a bit academically, but other than recognizing their intelligence you wouldn't know it. They don't rub the letters that go with their name (like Ph.D. for instance) in your face and are humble about it.

True. I have nothing against education..I would love to go to school full time, but the money isn't there, and God hasn't pulled me in that direction. I guess I was thinking of all the biblical characters who God used in spite of themselves. Its not about education or no education...its about asking God to use you...which is what I what to see. I've been to college...hopefully interning soon too...but I don't want to say those are the only people who get used by God...That would be sad.

Good to have you back here, blogging!
Bottom line with all the college/degree stuff--and you already know this--what does the Lord want you to do? I graduated from IU (a long time ago), school of education. After I became a Christian, I didn't want to teach in public schools, because I knew my ability share the gospel would be hindered. However, years later, that degree enabled me to teach English in China--and Laurie and I have the privilege of being involved with the salvation of a lot of very precious Chinese students--outside the classroom, of course!
So...if God is leading you to finish up, well, you never can tell. I agree with jaintn about Luke and Paul, but I don't agree that degrees and intelligence are necessarily correlated. Peter may have been intelligent, as he says, but he wasn't highly educated according to the cultural norms of the time.
Could you tell us a little more about what's going on with you in Prague?

Thank you! I want to do ministry!!! I want to counsel young girls, not on a professional level but perhaps through a church. I am actually looking into Christian counseling studies..so we shall see.
I was in Prague 2 years ago, and am now going to Poland for 9 days. I will definitely be blogging all that
I've missed blogging!

Working with orphanages and doing things in the square.
Working with orphanages and doing things in the square. Well, none of the patriarchs went to a college or university, although I think Moses did get on the job training from the most punitive teacher in the universe. However, after Israel was established, many of the writers were taught in the Rabbinic tradition, which is the Hebrew equivalent of the Greek Academy. So yeah, many had formal training. Jesus himself was quite the expert on the Bible and quoted from it regularly, and taught it as a Rabbi in addition to being a carpenter. Paul was quite the expert and was a Jew among Jews, which made him a perfect candidate for conversion and doing God's will.
So I'd contend, that many people in the Bible had formal training and were experts in their field at the time. I'm also a rhetoric teacher at a Big 12 University, so I may be biased towards pro-education.
