Summer in Italy is an interesting phenomenon. There are aphids in our luscious roses and the landlord just sprayed deadly pesticide on the hazelnut orchard outside our house. Our neighbours have begun to use their grill a lot, which smells lovely, and the next neighbour over has a dog which recently gave birth to eight sweet little puppies. We leave our doors and windows open during the day and the feel of marble under my feet is pleasant, now.

Well, it’s been up and down since I last wrote. I’m not doing well, and I have more bad days than good ones, but apparently I put up a good front (it does take a lot of practice) since someone who came by to see me at work said I looked as if I was enjoying myself. Could there have been a more satisfying or damaging remark said to me this year? I don’t know.

Anyway, perhaps as the summer wears on I will be able to clear up some things that are making my life miserable right now. For one thing, I’ll have to drink a lot more iced tea . . .

I am sorry you are not able to enjoy your time there the way it would be nice for you to do.

Thank you. With coffee and my allergy meds, things are looking a lot better! I am convinced that Mindsay has some kind of vibe-network of really nice people who affect others for the betterment of mankind (including but not limited to my allergies). I hope your spring is coming along nicely! Your icon is particularly adorable today.

She is indeed my Icon.  That is my Grandaughter Raechel.

I can't remember where you are in Italy - are you near Rome? My kids are going to London next week to be with their dad for a couple of weeks and they're going somewhere else - they don't know where just yet but Rome is a possibility. How warm is it at this time of year?

Ack! I'm late to respond! I am near Rome but the climates are different--I live up in the hills, where there is more wind. I should think it would be in the late 60's and 70's, so very pleasant though a little cool at night. I can wear a hoodie around and be comfortable.

Did they get off okay? Do they plan on going other places? Cause the islands can be quite cool and the hilly areas still get a little cold in the evenings.

S'ok. They ended up in Paris for 5 days where it was about 80. It's even nice in London right now and not supposed to rain all week! They may go to York or Canterbury on the train just for the day but otherwise they're in London.

Let me recommend York, then. There are many things I want to see there again--I only drove through once and now I wish I'd stayed longer! Never been to Canterbury, tho . . . London is an excellent city

Re: Our Hero eyes May doubtfully.
Oh, they've been to York before but not in 8 years, and it's a nice train ride from London.  One of Daughter's best friends went to the U. of Leeds for a year and Daughter spent several days with her there about 5 years ago. They've bought their tickets and will go to York Wed. Canterbury is nice - the cathedral is breathtaking. I wish I could go back to both places. If only I could see all those sights again now that my kids are adults - without having to keep an eye on them as well as try to appreciate the medieval masterpieces!! *sigh* maybe some day! The last time we were in York, the cathedral was full of risers and scaffolding and TV equipment because they were filming mystery plays there the next day. That really took a lot away from my enjoyment of the cathedral. Extremely anachronistic!! Yes, they're having a good time in London too, went to the British Museum again today. They've been to London perhaps half a dozen times now. I can't wait to hear about their experiences.

Oh, excellent! You should go to the British Library, dear--it was my favourite. As a librarian, too, you should go--SO LOVELY. They had to pry my fingers from the display cases at closing time.

One of these days, for sure. I haven't had anywhere near enough of London. I've always been dragged where others want to go and except for one day in 1994, have never had enough time to look and read everything I wanted to. That one day I was on my own for the whole day. Among other things, I spent 3 hours in Westminster Abbey, just reading all the tombstones. Enjoyed that so much.  Maybe next time the kids and I can go together. This trip I couldn't have gone anyway because I had to work!

You are approaching what is likely your least favorite time of year, too. I am so sorry things are not well with you.

You know you are always welcome to drop me a line if you feel the need to vent, spew, check sanity, etc.

All seasons of life are transitory.

Re: Our Hero eyes May doubtfully.
It has been all extremes this week--I might write you, actually. I had a sort of a breakdown and a sort of epiphany, and now I am not sure how to feel. Hmm. As soon as I come to a break in my assignments, I will try and send you a note. Thank you I look forward to a time after finals where I can catch up on Mindsay--there always seems to be so much more to do around here!

Hope things will smooth out soon. I once had a breakdown which was also an epiphany!

Thank you! Isn't it strange how what seems like two opposite extremes of emotion can come at exactly the same moment in time?

Re: Our Hero eyes May doubtfully.
It was when I knew I had to have help (in the form of Zoloft) - panic attack, pulse rate of about 90, high blood pressure, couldn't sleep - I was a mess!  Went to the doc in tears one Thursday morning - and when I got back to my car, I sat there and cried some more and gave thanks to God. The Bible says to give thanks in all things, so I did, because somehow I knew that it was going to be ok, and it was.
I hope you too can give thanks in whatever your situation is, because there's a purpose in it. Remember in The Hiding Place where Betsie insisted that she and Corrie would give thanks for the fleas in the prison camp? and it turned out that the prison guards wouldn't venture into their room because of the fleas, so they could carry on their prayer meetings without interruption.
