I think there is a fine line between encouragement and being over enthusiastic for your child. Children and young adults should be free to explore their talents and engagement with an audience without the pressure of 'being the best' or 'becoming a star'...it should be for fun.
Yes and no, Let them perform, push, no. Support, absolutelty! Force NEVA. It is there life, there youth, it is spose to be FUN,
In my experience, there is a fine line between encouragement and 'pushing' a child into something. I have come across many 'stage mums and dads' in my 8 years of performing, and typically it is their children who are the most critical of themselves and embarrassed when singing. I always cringe when parents begin giving stage directions or technical advice; I think support through attending performances and trusting the professionals paid to give such advice are more healthy and beneficial for the child. If the parents are there to live vicariously through the performer, it's time to find a new hobby.
I love to sit and watch my kids do anything that they love to do, but makeing a STRICK RULE THAT FROM THE START the parents are not to be present untill the final show. This should be put in place so that they understand and keep away......
